2. Distinguish between the two Strategies Sara is a university student. One day, her colleague asked her: “You are a good reader Sara. So, do you know the difference between scanning and skimming?”. Sara wondered about the difference but she could not distinguish between the two. So, she went back to her best friend, her reading book.

3. Skimming: This strategy is based on finding topics and main ideas in a text. To look for general ideas, you do not have to read the text’s details. You should: 1- Read the title and any subheadings. 2- Look for photos and diagrams. 3- Read the first two and last two sentences. 4- Read quickly. 5- Do not read every word.

4. Scanning: Scanning is a strategy in which you look for specific information or details. You can scan a reading by: 1-Know the information you want to find to answer the question. 2-look for the information you want; move your eyes quickly across the words until you find the words you want. 3- Do not read every word.
