The use of smart phones, tablets and laptops has made our use of social media exponentially. I discuss here a few examples of why your restaurant or pub MUST be on social media. The rest of the world is.

Do you sometimes wish that these smart phones, laptops, even the whole internet had never
been created? I do. My partner and I noticed this morning after I made the tea and coffee
(not too much milk in the tea, and only semi-skimmed please, lots of sugar and milk in my
coffee though) and climbed back into bed something very strange. We didn’t speak. Not to
each other or at all for over 10 minutes. Can you believe that?
Lying next to the woman I love on a Monday morning, just awoken to the new day (well
Amanda had, I had been up for 10 minutes, made the children lunches, seen they were
having breakfast and brought up the tea and coffee like a muppet hadn’t I, and it was cold!).
Can you guess what we were doing?
Checking Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, saw the new video from my cousin’s band on
YouTube (TheJimmyWattsBand, very good, thoroughly recommend them!) then checked for
any emails that had come in the night. 10 minutes of silence while we made the external
world our priority.
I can tell you that we were both very unhappy at this realisation and have vowed not to let it
happen again. That we should talk to each other first. We value each other more than the
rest of the world and need to demonstrate that. But enough of Matthew’s Magical Marriage
Counselling!

100 social media statistics for 2012 – Posted by Cara Prang on Jan 11, 2012
2. If you are not using this technology to promote your business you are missing
out in a very big way. Social media always means more links to your
traditional site, improving its Google rankings. Go out now and get
online. And before I make another coffee and return to the duvet here is one
more statistic for you.
• 48% of Social Media Site users update from their beds in the
morning.
