IBM Introduces New Software, Services To Help Clients Transform Their Business
                         Processes To Fuel Growth
LAS VEGAS and ARMONK, NY – 11 April 2011: IBM (NYSE:IBM) today unveiled new software and
services aimed at helping organizations transform their business processes to increase efficiency, reduce
costs and ultimately find new ways to grow their businesses.

One of the key challenges that organizations face is the ability to see an integrated view of business
processes across their organizations and ecosystems, in order to quickly recognize and take advantage
of new market opportunities and better meet the changing needs of their customers.

Recognizing these challenges, IBM is delivering a new unified Business Process Management (BPM)
platform, IBM Business Process Manager, that gives clients unparalleled visibility into key business
operations so they can model, automate, monitor and adjust plans instantly. As a result, both large and
small companies can now drive growth and responsiveness by continuously improving business
processes, such as those found in product development, customer service and finance departments.

The new software builds on IBM's leadership in the BPM marketplace, which has seen rapid growth as
companies seek new ways to streamline and accelerate their business processes to not only reduce
costs, but also drastically improve productivity. According to Gartner, Inc., BPM spending had jumped 9.2
percent in 2010, and IBM was named the top vendor with more than double the market share of any other

This growth is supported by recent studies showing that inefficient business processes cost Fortune 500
companies alone more than $480 billion dollars a year. This statistic is even greater in the public sector,
where organizations have lost up to $1.3 trillion dollars per year through inefficiency. (2) As a result,
increasing efficiency has been identified as one of the greatest priorities for organizations worldwide. (3)

Nationwide Insurance, one of the largest diversified insurance and financial services organizations in the
U.S., is just one example of how companies are transforming their business processes to boost efficiency.

As part of today’s announcement, IBM also announced the creation of a global consulting and services
delivery organization that will give decision makers the power to improve the performance of core
business processes such as marketing, human resources and finance, as well as industry specific
processes such as insurance claims, campaign management and compliance.

Drawing on the expertise of thousands of IBM consultants from around the world, the new practice will
provide solutions at all phases of process transformation, from enterprise strategy and governance to
specific process solutions. IBM BPM and service oriented architecture experts will provide these services
from a variety of locations in the U.S. and around the world.

The new services will be delivered via a new methodology, called the IBM Method for Business Process
Optimization. The new service from IBM Global Services will utilize IBM best practices to allow clients to
address the agility and complexity gaps in their businesses, to achieve better business outcomes from
their data and processes.

Today, IBM is also introducing a range of new and enhanced products and services designed to help
businesses transform their processes to increase efficiencies. Key among these are:
• IBM Blueworks Live – A Software as a Service (SaaS), cloud-based offering that accelerates
    business processes by allowing better visibility and communication across an organization
• IBM Business Monitor – Increases an organization’s real-time operational visibility through
    integrated Cognos Business Intelligence analysis and reporting
• IBM BPM Industry Packs – Software designed to accelerate and enhance the delivery of standards-
    based industry solutions for banking, healthcare and telecommunications

These new products represent the industry’s largest portfolio dedicated to helping organizations improve
all aspects of their business processes. The new products are being demonstrated to clients during the
IMPACT 2011 conference.

With this announcement, IBM is focusing on three of the key areas that clients and business leaders
worldwide have identified as key to their success: gaining effective insight into their markets; tuning their

IBM Introduces Software To Help Clients Reach New Mobile And Social Networks

  New Version of IBM's Flagship WebSphere Software Supports Applications from Mainframe to Mobile

LAS VEGAS and ARMONK, NY – 11 April 2011: At the IMPACT 2011 conference, IBM (NYSE: IBM)
unveiled new software that will allow clients to develop, deploy and manage new types of applications
spanning all major platforms from the mainframe to mobile devices. The ability to expand the reach of
their applications will allow businesses to grow revenue and increase their customer bases by taking
advantage of new and developing markets, such as mobile and cloud.

Key among the offerings is WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 8, new software that is designed to
speed the development of applications and services. The new version of WAS increases a client’s
security and control, and delivers automated enhancements for the installation, maintenance, testing and
problem resolution of business applications.

Complimenting these capabilities are new features that extend the reach of WAS to support applications
from the desktop to mobile devices through support for popular smart phones and tablets, such as iPad,
iPhone, Droid, Blackberry and others. Support for these devices is critical to businesses as mobile
applications constitute one of today’s largest growth areas, with one recent report estimating that the
global mobile applications market should grow to $25 billion by 2015 (up from $6.8 billion in 2010). (1)

WebSphere is IBM’s foundation for the layer of software known as middleware that enables Web
applications and computer operating systems to interoperate. Initially developed in 1997, WebSphere
became one of the key catalysts for IBM’s evolution beyond hardware and into software and services. As
part of its centennial celebration, IBM has identified WebSphere as one of the key technology drivers that
helped enabled the Web to become a platform for business computing.

There are currently more than 100,000 WebSphere clients worldwide, and one of these, heavy industry
giant Caterpillar, has already begun testing how the new software can expand their applications to reach
new customers.

“Caterpillar signed its first contract with IBM in 1928, meaning that we have been an IBM customer and

With today’s news, IBM is introducing more than 50 new products and services to its WebSphere
portfolio. These products provide the backbone for tens of thousands of IT infrastructures worldwide and
include:
• IBM Workload Deployer – allows companies to assemble customized cloud services with templates
     based on IBM best practices and features a wide range of IBM software, services and management
     capabilities;
• IBM WebSphere Virtual Enterprise – provides the ability to consolidate servers and enhance the
     utilization of existing infrastructure;
• IBM WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance – improves response time and lowers the risk of data
     loss via automatic replication, delivering high availability;
• IBM CICS Transaction Server for z/OS – delivers a reliable environment for high value/high volume
     business transactions;
• IBM WebSphere Extended Deployment Compute Grid – collaboratively shares resources between
     batch and on-line transactions, lowering IT costs;
•   IBM WebSphere Application Accelerator – gives global reach for critical application by utilizing the
    internet to speed applications to customers anywhere/anytime and provides application optimization
    service at the “edge of the network.”

IBM Introduces Consulting Services Practice for Business Process Management

 Offers Global Expertise and Technology to Help Businesses Adapt Processes to Meet New Challenges

consulting and services practice to help companies improve the performance of core business processes
such as marketing, human resources and finance, as well as industry-specific processes such as

According to Gartner, Inc.’s recent Magic Quadrant report for Business Process Management Suites,
“Gartner estimates that the size of the BPMS software market in 2009 totaled $1.9 billion in revenue,
compared with $1.6 billion in 2008 – an increase of 15%.” In that report, IBM’s WebSphere Lombardi
Edition is positioned in the Leaders Quadrant.1 IBM’s BPM product portfolio, which is growing at a double-
digit pace, includes offerings from IBM WebSphere software and technologies from IBM’s acquisitions of
Lombardi and ILOG, as well as new offerings such as IBM Case Manager.

The practice IBM is introducing today is designed to help line-of-business executives rapidly deploy
technology solutions to improve business processes and to create systems for enterprise governance and
centers of excellence for BPM.

To gain a competitive edge, businesses need to make their core business processes flexible enough to
support business growth while improving cost structures and productivity. This is driving growth in the
market for BPM software and services, as demonstrated by IBM's double-digit BPM software sales
growth and the growth in consulting engagements across several major industries.

BPM enables line of business executives to control specific processes and associated tasks, giving them
true ownership of the assets that are the life blood of their businesses. These technologies are simple for
executives to use and understand and can drive increased return on investment. BPM technologies also
empower leaders to identify opportunities for broader improvements such as application modernization
and complex system integration, providing concrete business justification for the investment.

Regulatory compliance will be one of the areas the new BPM services practice will focus on. For
example, in the U.S., IBM is helping health care payers prepare to comply with regulations that require
the use of new diagnostic and procedure codes by October 1, 2013. Using IBM Transformation
Accelerator and Manager for ICD-10 technology based on IBM’s BPM software, IBM consultants are
helping clients comply with this mandate, known as International Classification of Diseases version 10
(ICD-10). The mandate requires payers to migrate from a system involving the use of 30,000 procedure
and diagnosis codes to a new code set of more than 142,000.

In retail, key BPM drivers include the need for efficiency and customer satisfaction. For example, for a
global retailer whose custom-built systems were no longer able to support the company’s growth, IBM
consultants are building a solution that combines proven BPM methods with IBM software. The retailer
will use a single dashboard to view information on all the products moving through its supply chain that
will have automated rules for handling late shipments or other exceptions, as well as the flexibility the
company needs to change business rules over time without custom coding.

Lincoln Trust Company Saves More Than $3 Million And Grows Using IBM
                            Software and Services
LAS VEGAS and ARMONK, NY – 11 April 2011: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that its business
process management (BPM) software and consulting expertise has helped Lincoln Trust Company
improve customer satisfaction, expand its business and nearly eliminate paper documents.

Lincoln Trust Company is one of the leading independent U.S. providers of self-directed IRA accounts, as
well as recordkeeping, administrative and custodial services to 401(k) plans and other defined
contribution plans. It began working with Lombardi – now part of IBM – as part of a project aimed at
improving Lincoln Trust’s ability to process the 100,000-plus documents its mailroom received monthly
relating to retirement account services and transactions.

Using IBM WebSphere Lombardi Edition software and the blueprinting capabilities of IBM Blueworks Live
as well as consulting services, Lincoln Trust was able to establish a single system for the delivery of
imaged documents in place of paper. Among the benefits the company reaped from the project were a
return on investment of 120 percent in the first year, 90 percent fewer customer complaints, a reduction in
processing times by as much as 75 percent, a 25 percent increase in overall productivity and elimination
of the risk of lost documents.

Most recently, Lincoln Trust has applied IBM’s software to a more significant challenge – growth. To
meet the requirements of a new business opportunity in the company’s Corporate Retirement Services
unit, Lincoln Trust needed to quickly establish a system that could provide seamless on-boarding of new
business from a strategic partner. This new business was critical to Lincoln Trust’s bottom line, as it
presented an opportunity to lead to a 1,000 percent increase in new plan establishment for the unit.
Since the on-boarding process would be the first touch-point with the partner’s clients, it had to be
delivered in a “white glove” manner.

Using technology from IBM and other technology business partners, Lincoln Trust built a reusable
foundation for the on-boarding of this new business based on a service-oriented architecture. Tasks that
were once tedious and error-prone are now automated and seamless. The system, which is fully
compliant with regulations for corporate retirement plans set out by the US Department of Labor, includes
more than 150 individual tasks and milestones.

“Our business process transformation has differentiated Lincoln Trust in the marketplace,” said Helen Z.

To ensure that all stakeholders had a voice in shaping the new process, Lincoln Trust used IBM’s
Lombardi Blueprint process mapping product in a series of meetings involving all process participants
including sales, processors, relationship managers, department management, IT, and unit executives.
Using Blueprint, the existing process was documented with all problems, problem severity and frequency.
The new design was completed by a smaller working group and then presented to all process participants
and executive management for review and input.

To date, Lincoln Trust Company’s BPM program, enabled by IBM software and services, has achieved
the following benefits:
• Cost savings of between $3 and $4 million.
• Ongoing annual savings of $325,000, which will increase as Lincoln Trust’s business grows.

New IBM Software Helps Clients Accelerate Adoption and Realize the Benefits of
                              Cloud Computing

SAN FRANCISCO – 07 April 2011: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today introduced new software that helps
companies build their own cloud computing platforms to deliver business benefits in a wide range of
industries such as banking, insurance, retail and communications.

The new offering helps clients deploy workloads in the cloud based on IBM best practices in software,
services and management. IBM is bringing automation and standardization to simplify cloud software
deployment, taking human error and latency and manual labor out of the equation. This lowers risks and
provides higher confidence in the desired outcome.

For the first time, clients will be able to use a simple Web-based interface to easily install applications,
configure databases and set up security for the cloud services they consume or deliver to their
customers. Delivered with built-in monitoring, life-cycle management and resource elasticity, the software
can dramatically accelerate cloud deployments. For example, a retailer must be able to scale to meet high
demands of the holiday shopping season. This IBM offering allows the client to automate not only
deployment but also maintenance and upgrade cycles as part of its management capabilities, enabling
the retailer to automatically stretch its capacity to meet spiking customer demand.

IBM now provides a single platform to enable users to provision all the middleware and application
components they need to run web workloads in the cloud across multiple systems or hypervisors in a
simple and repeatable fashion. This will allow businesses to respond quickly to new requests for services
from their customers, and rapidly deploy new applications that will increase revenue and deliver greater
customer satisfaction.

For example, OneTree Solutions is one of the first companies to take advantage of the offering and is
currently working with IBM on a new solution that allows OneTree customers to realize the most profitable
pricing for customized quote preparation and deal negotiation.

The solution, OT ReMax, combines advanced pricing analytics and optimization capabilities with
embedded IBM technologies. It is able to provide profitable pricing recommendations to sales agents,
customized for each offer and contract, allowing them to make better informed pricing decisions and
maximize revenues.

“By deploying OT ReMax utilizing IBM cloud technology, OneTree is able to simultaneously tackle several
challenges; to provide its revenue maximization solution without requiring its customers to make any
upfront investments on hardware or software; to extend the reach of its solution on a global scale; to
reduce the time and effort of deployment to a minimum; and to provide unlimited scalability, which would
be difficult with a traditional approach,” said Dr. Panos Konstantinidis, Partner and co-founder of OneTree
Solutions. “IBM cloud technology gives OneTree and its customers a powerful competitive advantage.”

Another early partner, Alphinat, has been able to easily deploy its SmartGuide solution using IBM
Workload Deployer. SmartGuide Designer will allow their customers to create and to render complex web
applications without writing a single line of code. It enables quick deployment of Enterprise Applications
to the Cloud.

The demand for cloud computing is exploding as organizations seek to expand the impact of IT to deliver
new and innovative services while realizing significant economies of scale. The power of the cloud
computing model is the ability to harness varying technology investments by enabling rapid and dynamic
scheduling, provisioning and management of virtualized computing resources on demand. According to
IDC, $17 billion was spent on cloud-related technologies, hardware and software in 2009. IDC expects
that spending will grow to $45 billion by 2013. (1)

Silvermoon Business Systems is another company utilizing the Workload Deployer. They will deploy their
LUNOS solution, an Enterprise Suite of insurance systems components, to the cloud using the IBM
Workload Deployer. Based on early pilot testing, Silvermoon estimates that they will be able to achieve a
50-70 percent reduction in development and migration time leading to a significant cost savings for their
customers.

IBM led the market with the first private cloud development platform, the IBM WebSphere CloudBurst
appliance, which was designed to deploy business applications based on IBM middleware into the cloud.
The IBM Workload Deployer extends this experience to production environments with new workload
management and elastic runtime capabilities.

The IBM Workload Deployer has new features and functions that enhance its cost saving benefits for
clients and make deployment of on-premise cloud environments even easier.

IBM will demonstrate the new offering for more than 8,000 customers and partners during the IMPACT
2011 show in Las Vegas April 10 – April 15.
