Doubling the root: In chord progression we should start constructing our chord by doubling its root.
Following is an example of C major chord where C is doubled. Now we have four parts of the chord.
“S A T B” represents Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Base starting from the top to the bottom of four part chord.
Chord progression: rule #1: Do not use parallal cotaves and 5ths in Soprano and Base when writing two
chords.
Otaves(C-C, G-G) 5ths(C-G, G-D)
rule #2: Use step wise motion in soprano parts when writing two chords. Base notes do not need step wise
motion. In the example below C is going to B which is a step wise motion.
