2. Our OTS will be filmed in The Windsor Great Park. A dirt track can be
followed down to a quiet, secluded area.
This location is convenient as it is within driving distance for all three group
members and close to Joey’s house, meaning that we can prepare the fake
blood, costumes, etc. at his house before walking to the park.
The location is suitable for our slasher sub-genre as it provides a remote
location with towering trees, making the characters appear vulnerable.
THE LOCATION
3. This is the dirt path that will be
followed by the two boys at the
beginning of our OTS.
This path is ideal for our setting as it
appears secluded and is surrounded
by typical conventions of the horror
genre, e.g. large trees. However, it is
clear to the audience that the boys are
following a track which they then
become detached from, putting them
in imminent danger.
THE PATH
4. Deep in the woods is a typical setting
for slasher horror movies because the
remoteness leaves the characters
susceptible to attack.
The air of suspense is increased by
the dramatic irony of the audience
knowing that the characters are in
danger when they enter the woods,
whilst the naïve teenagers don’t
realise.
THE WOODS
5. An establishing shot will be used to
set the scene in the first shot of the
OTS. An example of this is shown
top right. This helps to reinforce that
we have selected a stereotypical
setting for a slasher film.
The photograph of the bottom right
is an example of a P.O.V shot that we
may use as the killer watches the
teenagers from the woods, hiding
behind trees.
PARTICULAR CAMERA SHOTS
6. We have a letter of authenticity which we can show to anyone who questions
our intentions in the park with cameras, a knife and fake blood as we do
understand that this could arouse suspicion. However, this is unlikely as very
few people follow the path that we will be following.
This setting will be available at any time as it is public land. However, areas of
more dense woodland will have less lighting. This means that we should ideally
film during daylight hours, preferably at a weekend, in order to minimise the
level of risk.
