What is a Hero?
• What makes a person a hero?
• Is it the fire-fighter who charges into a burning building because he thinks that there may be someone
in there?
• Is it the basketball star who has used his fame and fortune to develop an after school program for kids
in his hometown?
• Is it the teacher whose dedication to her students helps them not only learn about history, math and
science, but also what it means to be a good person and to care for others?
• Is it the mom who has to work two jobs to support her children and still makes the time to show her
kids she loves them, and to play a game of Memory with them?
• There are countless definitions of heroes in our world, but most people's ideas about the characteristics
of a hero are fairly consistent.

Qualities of a Hero?
• Sacrifice
“ Sacrifice is the forfeiture of something highly valued for the sake of one considered to have a greater value or claim.
• Determination
“ Determination is a fixed intention or resolution; a firmness of purpose or resolve.
• Loyalty
“ Loyalty is the feeling of allegiance or the act of binding oneself to a course of action.

“ Courage is that firmness of spirit and swell of soul which meets danger without fear.
• Dedication
“ Dedication is a selfless devotion; complete and whole hearted fidelity or the act of binding oneself to a course of action.

“ Endurance has often been styled quot;passive courage,quot; and consists in the habit of encountering danger and enduring pain with a steadfast and
unbroken spirit.

“ Bravery is daring and impetuous courage, like that of one who has the reward continually in view, and displays his courage in daring acts.

Why Wonder Woman?
• Wonder Woman had powers far beyond those of ordinary women, and was
decked out with gold bracelets and a golden belt containing the miracle metal
Feminum, enabling her to deflect bullets with her wrists
• She also possessed a golden lasso with which she quot;wrangledquot; various villains
• Assuming the quot;mortalquot; identity of Diana Prince, Wonder Woman joined the
U.S. army air corps as a yeoman, the better to be near handsome pilot Major
Steve Trevor, whom she'd met when his plane crash-landed on Paradise Island.
• Since quot;Dianaquot; wore glasses and dressed more modestly than her quot;realquot; self,
Steve never quite caught on that she and Wonder Woman were one in the
same.

Wonder Woman’s Qualities?
• Princess Diana is an Amazon from Greek mythology
• Her name is reflective of the mythological character, Diana or Artemis
• Her mother is Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons
• When Diana leaves the Amazons to travel to the world outside, she is known as both
Wonder Woman, and as Diana Prince
• She has been personified as the quintessential role model
• She stands for truth and honour
• Wonder Woman projects strength and valour
• She has always shown courage in the face of adversity
• She convincingly displays initiative when facing her fears, either alone, or in a team
(where she has been featured many times, in the company of Superman, The Flash,
Fantastic 4, Captain America, etc)
• She will fight her enemy to the death, seeing each adventure through to its finale.

Which Superhero do you Identify with?

• Which redeeming qualities do you have, which best
represents you, as a Superhero?
• What ‚Superpowers‛ do you have, which would enable
you to be a better representative to your peers and customers?

It's all in the give and take
• There’s a philosophy out there that says everything you need to know, you learned in
kindergarten.
• As charming as that is, it kind of goes without saying.
• Don’t hit people because they will hit you back.
• Wash your hands because they have probably touched nasty things.
• Be nice because everyone likes a nice person.
• I mean, duh. All of those maxims stop being rules and start being mindless habits
when you’re about 6-years-old, save one of them: Be balanced.
• Everything works better when in balance.
• Work hard and play often.
• Spend your money, but make sure you save some too.
• Are you going to wear a miniskirt? Then you better have on long sleeves.

It's all in the give and take
• But somewhere along the way, balance lost its value.
• Maybe the problem is the all-or-none theory that plagues everyone worldwide.
• I bet almost every participant of this generation has felt the pressure to sacrifice
balance in order to excel.
• If it's stability you want, you need to have balance, and that goes for any industry.
• Whoever said balance and distinction were mutually exclusive? On the contrary, if
you’re going to be the best you have to understand balance.
• The playground politics of ‚give a little take a little‛ work just as well in the
professional world as they did for the swing set.
• When it comes to balancing the retail frontier, you’ve got to give a little heart and
take a little pint.
• Any kindergartener can tell you that.

Conflict Resolution
• Conflict is one of the drivers for improved team performance.
• This is a dynamic commonly in motion... everyday of our lives!
• It’s a game that is played between managers and staff, peers and colleagues.
• Managed well, conflict can lead to better decisions, more creative ideas and higher
quality output from the team.
• Managed badly, it can stop teamwork and hinder individuals from achieving their
personal goals.
• The most widely-used methods of resolving conflict are based on ‚game theory‛.

• Game Theory
• Game Theory is a complex and extensive science, but there are some simple elements
that can be used in everyday dealings with people at work, including the following
principles.

• Everyone is trying to achieve some kind of quot;payoffquot; or benefit, but the payoff may be
different for different people and organisations. Examples of 'payoffs' might be:
• Gaining a sense of achievement from completing a worthwhile and/or high
quality job
• Obtaining financial reward
• Making a profit for the company
• Getting the job done as quickly as possible in order to go somewhere better
• Having a feeling of self-esteem or self-worth
• Being recognised for one’s efforts
• Getting your payoff is called a quot;winquot;.

Conflict Resolution
• There are different types of games: a competitive game means that for you to get your
payoff, someone else has to lose theirs.
• For example, in a competitive game of tennis at Wimbledon, for one player to win
and proceed to the next round, the other player has to lose and be put out of the
tournament.
• A cooperative game means that for you to maximise your payoff it is best for other
players to get their payoff as well.
• For example, when you drive a car, you are most likely to get your quot;payoffquot; (getting
to your destination safely and on time) if all other players of the game (other drivers on
the same road) get their quot;payoffquot; and arrive at their destination safely and on time.
• If other drivers crash they may delay or prevent you from getting where you want to
go.

Conflict Resolution
• In real life there are often many games taking place in parallel, some competitive and others
cooperative. Problems arise when you play a cooperative game competitively (you can end up
causing yourself problems), or a competitive game cooperatively (you can end up losing). A
manager-employee collaboration, or collaboration between team members, is usually a cooperative
game. To play a cooperative game, you need to find ways of working where you get your payoff
and your partner person/organisation gets their payoff. This is called a win-win position.
• Where co-operative games (collaborations) fail this is often due to one of the following:
• Each party makes assumptions about, and fails to understand, the other parties' win positions.
• Where the win positions are understood, the parties criticise each others' win positions. E.g.:
they try to convince each other that their expectations are unrealistic
• Where the win positions are accepted, each party focuses on the difficulties of apparent
differences, rather than innovating and trying to come up with innovative solutions.

Clarins was the first laboratory to incorporate an anti-pollution complex into a day cream. Today, all

1993
For the first time in cosmetology, Clarins developed a combination of plant extracts to protect
Langerhans cells from UV rays. This was called quot;Safeguarded Beautyquot;. This vegetal complex was later

1995
Clarins used the influence light has on plant extracts to develop the revitalizing benefits of this day

• It’s not news that the kinds of questions you ask can greatly influence the kind of success you
enjoy.
• If you’re always asking yourself, ‚Can I do this? Can I get this project done?‛, guess what your
day is going to be swamped with?
• That’s right „ uncertainty. Doubt. A submerged sense of confidence. And, because you’re always
wondering if it’s even possible, you never fully engage with the task at hand, and so the major
determiner of your project’s success (your commitment) is missing, or halfway at best.
• Do you suffer from this? Get great ideas, but always wonder if you could pull them off, or not. As
a result, you spent a lot of time wondering, hemming and hawing, and never really applying yourself
to the fullest.
• You constantly felt water-logged, as if time was slipping down the drain.
• (And if you want another productivity tip, try that one on for size: Engage fully. Sitting on the

questions that led me towards where I wanted to go. My productivity increased, sure; but the big
change was how much less effort it took to get things done, now that I wasn’t swimming
upstream against the tide of doubt.
• So do yourself a favor: Say yes. Commit to getting it done. Take the plunge, and engage your
heart and mind in the direction of completing what’s in front of you. And sure enough, you’ll
find yourself flooded with questions, and answers, that pave the way towards success.
