Achievements During the entire time, I founded (all green field situations) the three
Chinese manufacturing facilities, the Hong Kong branch and the
distribution operation in Thailand. The initial investment was very small (4
x 100K US$). I had 8 initial employees in 1992.
2009
The organization had grown to 375 people with total revenues of US$
20 Million, representing a major supply base and distribution point for
the worldwide operations of Columbus McKinnon Corp.
It is a multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-functional environment with
a lot of challenges which requires a true generalist with advanced
technical abilities to run the four separate operations. I have travelled
to fifty-two and lived in nine different countries, where I have learned
to speak five languages incl. Mandarin Chinese.
My success was based on effective leadership and the respect for
people, good team building, effective delegation, proper motivation,
cultural awareness and my far above average level of common sense.
2005
Yale (Hangzhou) had become the largest employer of the Yiqiao
Township in Xiao Shan, Hangzhou.
I kept a very good relationship with the local party secretary, the
director of the industrial bureau, and a number of officials of the
Hangzhou and Xiao Shan City Administrations.
1992 to 2004
In the first 12 years we achieved an average aggregate annual growth
of 47% Y/Y with a net profit of between 18%-23% before taxes.
I persistently used my entrepreneurial spirit and corporate freedom to
introduce a number of entirely new lines of products, while
implementing all the additional (and completely different)
manufacturing processes and technologies in the factories.
I founded the four Asian companies on behalf of the corporation,
made all the applications to and negotiated with the responsible
provincial and local government officials.
1998
The company became sole agent ‘Greater China’ for the
entertainment hoists from the U.S. operation which we developed to
achieve market leadership by the end of 2005
Others
I developed a good working relationship with the officials of the Beijing
Hoist Institute who had to approve our electric hoist manufacturing
operation and with the Customs and Excise Department as we were
chosen a ‘First Class Company’ without the mandatory need for
technical custom inspection before export. I maintained excellent
relations to the Labor Office to avoid industrial action as well as to the
Technical Approval Authorities of the Zhejiang Province for the
technical approval of all hoists destined for the Chinese Market.

I installed an elaborate R&D department hiring ten engineers to work
on technical manufacturing drawings (AutoCAD® R14 and Solid
Works®) and on new products, several of which became top selling
items in the USA and in Europe.
I pushed a strong manufacturing development with profitable growth.
In my drive to enhance the delivery of flawless components and parts,
I have visited hundreds of sub-suppliers' factories in China and the
rest of Asia.
In order to increase service and sales, I went into the deep gold,
platinum and coal mines of South Africa, to ship yards, steel plants,
chemical plants, aircraft maintenance hangars and railway repair
depots.
Experience
2002 to 2009
I completely moved to Hangzhou in order to have more management
control.
In 2004, I restructured the entire management and installed Lean
manufacturing, SOX compliance and a complete SAP (R3, best
package solution) in the company, which was fully operational at the
end of 2008. In the hands of our professional finance department, this
facilitated real time comprehensive reporting to the corporation.
The two Chinese factories had a very high vertical integration, where
the products were made from bar stock and steel sheet, which were
transformed into qualified parts, and then assembled on three Lean
assembly lines and packed together with test certificates and ready to
be shipped as top quality branded equipment to the end-users in
Europe and the U.S.A.
1992 to 2002
I frequently commuted between Germany and China to lead my
management team and gather additional transfer technology know-
how in Germany while keeping the overall communication running at
the best possible level.
Others
I have travelled China extensively, visiting Beijing, Guangzhou,
Shenzhen, Qingdao, Jilin, Chongqing, Xiamen, Shanghai, Wuxi,
Suzhou, Ningbo, Nanjing and many other places. Furthermore, I have
visited Taiwan, Hong Kong and many places in the Philippines,
Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and
Singapore as well as Australia for sales/marketing and sourcing
reasons

Jan 1986 to Apr 1988 MICROMINT COMPUTER GMBH
Position Deputy Managing Director
Achievements

Managed the technical department and the overseas purchases.
After transferring to South Korea and later to Taiwan, I arranged the
OEM production of monitors, mother boards, interface cards and
peripherals with Hyundai Electronics, Samsung and later with a
variety of Taiwanese sub-suppliers.
Reduced the purchasing prices continuously and aggressively (over
5%/month), as the market was fast and as the company needed to
stay competitive.
1980 – 1986 Worked in Sales as well as in a purchasing function with various MNCs.
