JOB TITLE: Value Stream Manager
OBJECTIVE
Manages a cross functional team in the daily fulfillment of customer requirements for a value
stream. Oversees the daily operation of multiple production shifts with overall responsibility for
safety, product quality, process control, materials management, and equipment utilization.
Ensures a quality product is built to schedule and that it meets customer expectations.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Ensures a safe, clean, and organized work place is provided for all employees.
Implements and executes frequent department safety inspections and ensures the accurate
completion of all accident reports.
2. Ensures that product and processes meet customers’ highest expectations of quality,
while ensuring that manufacturing processes meet company requirements.
3. Interviews, hires, and monitors the performance of Team Members; reviews and
evaluates their needs and potential; develops appropriate cross-training and other
development programs.
4. Responsible for line inventory levels and accuracy. Ensures that inventory processing
and procedures meet company requirements.
5. Ensures that required preventative maintenance and repairs are completed in assigned
areas.
6. Reviews and approves the performance and merit increase proposals for all assigned
associates. Actively involved in all areas of employment, performance evaluation,
employee relations, and associate development.
7. Assists other Operations leaders and Human Resources in the development and/or
revision of policies and procedures. Serves on various teams, conducts research, and
provides input so policies/procedures are developed/changed to meet the needs of the
customer and company.
8. Establishes team goals and metrics, accountabilities and assesses performance
accordingly. Makes adjustments as necessary to ensure the team is meeting its goals.
Accountable for all areas of team performance, including, but not limited to: safety,
quality, productivity, materials performance, overhead costs, and performance to
schedule.
9. Reviews shipping/loading schedules and production capabilities to assure schedules are
met and that product is built complete.
10. Reviews, modifies, and otherwise supports ISO and other company standard practices
and procedures in connection with all department functions.
2. 11. Directs the preparation of expense budgets for the AOP, LRP, and monthly forecasts
during the year for manufacturing departments. Determines capital, manpower and
expense requirements and makes recommendations for approval.
12. Oversees production department by monitoring the utilization of materials and resources;
identifies wasteful practices and methods; resolves problems and communicates concerns
as necessary.
13. Maintains relationships with functional leaders in other departments to ensure alignment
or goals and activities and that processes meet company requirements.
PROBLEM SOLVING
1. Working with a complex and diverse workforce consisting of Supervisors, Materials
Managers, Maintenance Mechanics, Mfg and Quality Engineers, indirect forklift
operators and leads, Associates, Contract Associates and Co-associates in a fast changing
and highly demanding production environment.
2. Balancing morale and motivation across the workforce while maintaining schedules
requires a great deal of imagination and innovation.
3. The day to day tasks in Operations requires adaptability and experience in order to deal
with the demands of sales, service and the outside customer. Schedules and needs that are
constantly in flux require the Manager to be flexible in determining priorities and work
hours.
4. Determining the right priority at the right time and adjusting resources to satisfy those
priorities while not allowing others tasks to slip requires experienced skill and expertise.
KNOWLEDGE / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Basic job standards include: basic computer skills, ability to follow written instructions.
