2. Basic Events
● Reverend James Smith replaces Mr. Brown. And shows his intolerance and
religious extremism towards the igbo way of life. Discredits Mr. Browns
ideas. Inspires Hatred.
● Kicked a woman out for refilling wine bottles.
● Enoch de-masks an egwugwu during a ceremony which kills a spirit.
● Next day all egwugwu unite and charge his compound to burn it, they do.
● Then they head to the church.
● They claim to the christians that they need to burn the church as
compensation for what Enoch did.
● Smith says you won't burn the church.
● His translator changes it and said that Smith will take care of Enoch.
● They burn it down anyways.

● Reverend James Smith-Religious fanatic has no
patience for igbo beliefs/culture. Replaces Mr. Brown
● Eroch- Hes a convert and tries to unmask egwugwu(kill
an ancestral spirit) also a sacred Python killer
● Egwugwus*- Burn Eroch’s compound down
● Okeke- Smith’s interpreter
● Ajofia- Leader of Egwugwu

People taking too strong or religious views
Not understanding others cultures/beliefs
ignorance

8. Questions
1. Today, do people take religion too far in order
to convert/ punish those who don't believe the
same? If so, any Examples?
2. The people united and burned a compound
down after what Enoch did. Were they just in
doing so? Was this more of a riot or vigilante
justice?
