1. My initial idea of who my target audience would be was
mainly just females these is because of the theme that r&b
songs tend to follow which is based on love and relationships.
This is a theme that girls tend to relate to a lot more than
males do which makes them likely to listen to these type
songs. Males tend to listen to songs that have a message
behind them rather than a real life relatable story.
Furthermore, rap is listened to more by males as males tend
to be more hostile. On the other hand males do tend to listen
to r&b songs sometimes due to the way in which they can
relate as they may be going through the same situation.
Males would not be the main focus of my target audience. I
based this information on my prior knowledge of music
through a music production course I had done but also on my
knowledge as a music listener knowing what I like to listen to
but also what my male and female friends like to listen to. In
this course I then extended my knowledge with more in-
depth and specific research. I did this by using Google to find
out in for a tin on the genre firstly and see the statistics show
that other people had found. I then looked at popular artists
In the R&B genre and looked at their fan base. This was then
narrowed down to more specific artists that were similar to
Tyler Noel like Ash.anti and Mary Jane Blige as this was more
likely to correlate with the type of fans that Tyler Noel would
have.
When constructing the
questionnaire there was key things
we had to consider to get the best
responses from it. The main focus
was finding out what vision they
had for the song. This was due to
the challengingof conventions that
our song ‘If You Wanna Leave’
provided through a faster tempo
and lyrics that connote a strong
woman rather than a broken
woman seen in other R&B songs.
Furthermore, we wanted to findout
what people thought of our idea
which we had been inspired to
create though researchof the genre
and videos from similar artist.
I feel that through research of the music
industry atthis present time. The best way to
mark is through social media sites.With nearly
every household havingaccess to internet, this
allows for the promotion though these sites.
Furthermore, due to the technology gap this
means that the active users of sites like
facebook and twitter arepeople of the age
between 25 and 30 which allows us to appeal
directly to the target audience. In addition,
from audience feedback word of mouth and
social media arethe two methids of choicefor
findingnew music.
I think that the music video has
successfully achieved what it was meant
to achieve. However, there could be
room for improvement with a wider
variety of shots and a continuous
storyline narrative.Thiscouldhave made
the video increase in quality. The
audience feedback however did help
increase the likeabilityfromthe audience
and also develop product to make it
more successful for the market.
.Tyler Noel also has quitea socialpresencewith
accounts onFacebook, Twitter, YouTube, Reverb nation
and more. Throughthese sites I was ableto gather up
enough knowledge about her andthetypeoffans she
already has andthetypeofpeoplethey are.Finally,I
got people tolistento the so goodand givefeedback of
they thoughtthetypeoflistenerwould beand look like.
This was very insightfulas thesecondarepotential
listeners ofthesong and I was abletopick people that
were initialthetargetaudienceand seewhatthey think.
From the research I gatheredthat I was correctaboutit
being mainlyfemales wholistento the R&D musicbut
the age range was a lotsmaller than expected. Females
over the ageof25 tendto go for more soul and pop
music that have a calming effect on them. Furthermore,
the targetaudiencewas then narrowed down toblack
community. This is becauseR&D was a style that was
createdthroughAfro-Americans andthis imageof‘black
artists creating musicfor theblack community’through
R&D musicis still seen intoday’s music. Inaddition,the
message ofthesong showing a strong independent
woman is something thatwouldappealto the female
audience as it something they would aspiretobe.
Furthermore,thetopics aboutloveare moresuitedto
girls as it something they can relate tomore.In addition,
the large amount ofyoung girls that turn upto R&B
concerts can support this.

2. WHAT I HAVE LEARNT FROM THE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

Overall,Ifeel thatthe audience feedbackbenefitedmymediaproductasitallowedforme to
getan understandingof whatthe targetaudience feel of the productateach stage and allowme
to rectifythe problemsthatoccurred. Althoughsome of the feedbackwasnottakenonboard,
thishappenedaftercareful considerationof the researchandplanningIhaddone and alsothe
type of artist Tylernoel isherself.Ifeelthatthe artistfeedbackwasprobablyone of the most
insightful aswell. Althoughshe isnotrepresentativeof herthe whole targetaudiences.She
knowsheraudience andshe knowsthe image she wantswhichallowedustochange our
productaccording to herrequirements.Thiswasseenwiththe choice of digipackcoverwhich
was chosenbyTylerNoel herself.

I fell thatwiththe upbeattempo
