 Support for Sieve mail filtering language
Started 2002: open source project developed
(primarily) by me:
 2006 Stephan Bosch started Pigeonhole Sieve
 Very few developers – most people don’t think
coding IMAP server for free is a fun hobby
 But talking about it is fun: 3400 subscribers in
Dovecot mailing list & 200 in IRC

 CHALLENGE #1 >> going beyond existing
Dovecot users (most of whom were already happy
with Dovecot)

 RESULT>> 2013: enabled a new business
strategy // expanded partners // raised funds for
hiring and a services model

• Traditional Groupware solution and Web-based

• 2012: Many customers wanted a commercially
supported email backend
• 2015: became trusted messaging and
collaboration platform for ISPs, telcos and cable
companies
• OX often recommended Dovecot, but challenge
was integration and support
