2. Abstract
To win lottery is to know the risk, to be successful is to know you. To win lottery
involve losing money and losing yourself if you do not learn the rules and the loopholes
associated with winning. Many winners do not read the instruction or have the knowledge
for what winning lottery actually means beside I am rich. However, the joy of winning
outweighs any foreseeable risk that was detrimental to many winners at end that we
heard in the news. Researches have shown that many winners filed for bankruptcy, and
goes from have money to being poor and sad to say many winner lost their life in the
process of winning lottery, from luck to lost is the recent trend for winning lottery. The
advice is to be aware of the danger, ponder over the situation that winning put in to think
for your action. The recent trend in winning lottery is that you are gamble with life.
According to Kenny Roger for the “Gambler”, maybe you should know when winning
lottery might not worth it. Knowing yourself may help you to make the right decision is the
only chance for success for winning lottery.
3. Introduction
Winning the lottery might seem like an unbelievable strike
of luck that makes us overlook the possible dangers. Being
successful after winning the lottery is knowing how to control
large amounts of money and dealing with people. I will
circumvent the possible dangers of reckless spending,
victimization, and fraud by developing the means to be
successful with intelligentsia. Intelligentsia is a term I used to
be highly educated with my winning. To be successful with my
winning, I will reinforce my emotional intelligence, cultural
intelligence, social intelligence for social exchange.
However, before navigate the means for success, I learned
about why I win the lottery.
4. Who win lottery?
Before navigating the means for success I researched why I won the lottery with the curiosity
why I get the lucky ticket for the numbers, am I lucky, or someone just gave me the lucky ticket
reminds me about a movie called Mad Money. In the movie, there are set of numbers to the lock
for redistributed money, to find the numbers to the lock required an insider, someone that you
know or know you. Buying lottery ticket required customary visits and revisits to the place that
sell the lottery ticket. Thinking about the typical types of people that usually buy lottery tickets,
unless specifically advertised to influence the educated or the professionals could not by any
chance makeup the numbers that would match exactly on a ticket.
The three types of people that buy lottery tickets, including me are: the less fortunate, the
poor, unemployed, and unskilled workers. These three types of people usually lack the resources
and the means required for success and strive to win the lottery because they need the money.
According to Turner and Ferentzy, “Historically, governments have often used lotteries as an
alternative form of revenue generation” (Turner & Ferentzy 2010). The history and the trend for
selling lottery tickets are to help the poor with luck.
5. Therefore, how could poor who is lucky enough to win large amounts of money, not
spend their winnings. In addition, winning the lottery is announced to the public that it is
okay with having money to spend and helping others. The chance to be successful with
winning the lottery requires the intelligentsia to know how to manage money and deal with
others. According Ferris Jabr, “don’t wish for luck, they make their own” which “described
how a former mathematician who has won the Texas lottery four times, netting her $20
million, . . . exploited the use of pseudo-randomness” (Jabr, 2011). You must know the
concept of winning, besides scratching cards to identify numbers.
To win the lottery, you have to know that the history of the lottery means you gamble
with your life and earnings to help others. To gamble with your life requires the understanding
of who you are dealing with. In the case of the “lottery”, you help the government and the
people or public. According to Paul Gilkes, “The lottery was designed to raise money for
public works and charitable projects to aid the poor” (Gilkes, 2013). To think that your
winning make you a person of interest by the public and the government for, how you spend
the money, what you do with money, who are your friend and family, where you go and what
you do tied with your winning the lottery.
6. Who win lottery? continue
There are three types of people that usually buy lottery ticket unless is specially
advertise to influence the educated or the professionals. The three types of people
that play ticket from personal perceptive are, the uneducated, example is the janitor,
the desperate, and example is a person in great need, and the poor, the unfortunate.
The three types of people that were described lack the means or the skills require for
being successful if win the lottery. The three types of people mentioned are less
likely to be successful with the history of lottery ticket according to Turner and
Ferentzy (2010) is “Historically, governments have often used lotteries as an
alternative form of revenue generation” (Turner & Ferentzy 2010) to help the poor.
7. How People Win
The simple way to win is by buying lottery tickets and scratching to match numbers, for
Powerball is a random selection of numbers, other forms include self-selecting a set of numbers.
With the ticket, the suggestion is to buy more tickets to provide a better chance of winning.
The parallel is not to be a fool with idea of wining the lottery. A press release for “How Can
I Win Lottery” by PRLog indicates that, “winning lottery comes with formulas that require
studying the orders of winning...have you really studied the formulas and patterns that serial
lottery winners have developed? There's a reason why they are repeat winners. The system
works” (PRLog, 2010). Know the environment, and reason for your luck with the winning ticket is
very important for success.
Winning does not mean success, according to the article, “The Bad Luck of Winning”,
published in the New York Times by Joe Nocera, is about a couple, Mark and Cindy Hill that won
“posed with an oversized check for $293,750,000, along with another...unidentified, winner”
(Nocera, 2012). Considering the impact of winning the lottery, influenced me with the story
about how some go from riches to rags after winning millions, make winning the lottery
unrealistic.
8. However, the new trend for winning the lottery is possibly that
winner may be harmed to stop them from collecting the money.
The Exploring Lifespan Development by Laura Berk has this to
say in reference to the environment, “dynamic is where
environment is not static force that affects people in uniform
way.” to “comparing theories” for information processing in
Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, to “stress changes in thinking”
(Berk, 2010). The major risk in winning lottery is getting kill
before claiming the money is the odd and the new trend that
start with success in winning the lottery beside the common
risks.
9. Risks of Winning
A common risk associated with winning the lottery is being robbed. It is sad to say that recent trends include
being poisoned or murdered as soon the announcement is made for the winner, in order to hinder them from being
able to claim the lotto or the money. According to an article in the New York Times about government's involvement in
winning the lottery indicates, “It is worth remembering the damage lotteries do — sucking money from the
disadvantaged, while burdening the winners with sums they can’t handle” (Nocera, 2012). Winning lottery maybe
difficult to resist or saying no, but not knowing the rule of the game is more dangerous than winning.
An anonymous online news source posted by the Onion about Powerball Winners indicates that winning the
lottery ruins families and carries the potential to get kill. According to the news, “While acknowledging that McInery
and Linden’s lives were ruined in a startlingly brief span of time, lottery officials noted that the two have managed to
avoid the pitfalls of most jackpot winners, who are typically found dead within six hours of their numbers being
announced” (The Onion, 2012).
The risks for winning the lottery reminds me the song by Kenny Rogers, “The Gambler” which says to think twice
on whether to accept luck or to walk away from it. According Kenny Rogers, there is a winner and loser in winning the
lottery and before claiming your fortune “You're gonna play the game, boy You gotta learn to play it right You've got to
know When to hold 'em Know when to fold 'em Know when to walk away Know when to run You never count your
money When you're sittin' at the table There'll be time enough for countin' When the dealin's done” (Rogers, 1978).
Fashion the acceptance of my winning for reviewing the lyrics three times to understand the game of winning to
pursue success.
10. Emotional intelligence
To be successful with winning the lottery requires intelligentsia, that is, high intellect
with the most intelligence to deal with having large amount of money and deal with people
to examine how winning the lottery would influence emotional intelligence, cultural
intelligence, social intelligence, and social exchanges.
I will apply emotional intelligence to control my sensation that I am rich, to control my
feelings not to spend the money until I fulfill required obligations such as, pay the taxes
with my winnings, payoff my debts especially my school loans, and to invest some of the
money. With winning the lottery there is no way to avoid not having friends because
people expect you to share the luck, but in doing so, I want to apply emotional intelligence
for friends whom love you just for the money and do not care if you end up giving them all
your money, remember to choose friends wisely. For immediate safety, I will make a public
statement that the money does not belong to me, as I am just a shareholder of the ticket
and do not receive all of the winnings.
11. Moreover, I will use emotional intelligence to have a financial plan for how to spend the money
and what to spend the money on to avoid giving in to the influence of friends and family. Friends and
Family would want to be close for financial support, but I will use my emotional intelligence to create
the sentiment that the money is already being allocated with investing in organizations that will
create jobs.
In winning the lottery, I want to avoid the exaggeration of having money to spend with impulsive
because friend or family need help.
My emotional intelligence is to minimize the mental agitation to help others by giving money
instead of volunteer my time. Emotional intelligence is thinking about the responsibility. Intelligence
is how quick we are to understand our mental power or ability.
The theoretical development for emotional intelligence by Kerri Anne Crowne (2013) is “an
ability and involves the perception and expression of emotion accurately, as well as the ability to
adapt emotions and understand emotions while using emotional knowledge in thought processes” (p.
105).
-Encyclpaedia Britannica “emotion” is “a distinct feeling or quality of consciousness, such as joy,
that reflects the personal significance of an emotion-arousing event” (Emotion 2010) to screen the
influence of friends and relatives.
12. Cultural intelligence
My cultural intelligence would apply in choosing my friend wisely with my culture
influence that a person who does not think is a fool, and a person who does not think twice
is prone to be worthless with making many mistakes. When it comes to fortune or winning
lottery, you have swindlers not friends. My cultural intelligence imply to know a true friend
is a friend that does not come to you for money, but for your time, a friend in time of a need
is a true friend, and a friend in time of money is a crook.
My culture indicated that knowledge is the power for success, and how to gain
knowledge is by listen to your inner thought that allow you to think twice before making
decision. When a friend come to you asking for money, first thing is to think this is not a
friend to think twice to find out why help with money with providing alternative way to help.
According to Crowne (2013), the theoretical development for cultural intelligence is
“incorporates the capability of an individual to adjust and effectively adapt to diverse cultural
situations” (p. 105). In reference to my origin and race, a black woman from Nigeria, I grow
up to associate money and wealth with hard work to be vigilant for not to waste money.
13. However, I will use my winning to help improve agriculture that I think would be
beneficial to others. One way that I want to help is by having the equipment that
would help to increase productivity. In addition, helping other to be successful on his
or her own is better than to entertain a friend with money.
Cultural intelligence would help me to ponder on allocating my winning to
important things with better decision. According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, “Each
race had distinct mental and physical characteristics; they differed in character and
natural abilities, such as leadership, economic resourcefulness, creativity, and
inventiveness, and in morality and aesthetic sensibilities” (Race 2010). Having a strong
ethic for not wasting money because money is not easy to make and if you are lucky
with making money to safe it prevent me from spending money partying.
14. Social intelligence
Social means party for winning the lottery. I will apply my social intelligence with winning the lottery to
change behavior for party to responsibility. There is a common saying; a fool with money will perish to
revisit the bible story about the prodigal son who squanders his inheritance to please friends or the
foreigners. A social intelligence when winning the lottery is that you do not have friend to you have con artist
or crook.
I will use my social intelligence to establish a boundary for impulsive spending by influence. Social
intelligence indicates when you have money it possible that others want to rob you or steal your money to
establish the fight or flight responses to avoid doubtful situation, common saying is when in doubt to stop.
The social intelligence for winning the lottery is for me to realize that I am at risk for victimization to be alert
in social environment.
I will use my social intelligence to facilitate honest dealings in making contract to increase my chance to
make more money by invest in reputable and trustworthy organization with good course to help others to do
better and to be sensitive to avoid making money contract in a social environment. According to Crowne
(2013) the theoretical development for social intelligence is, “Early researchers’ defined social intelligence as
the ability to understand and manage people.” (p.105) One notion for intelligent is that people love you
when you have the money, therefore, when you do not have the money or when the money for your
winning is gone, people will not love you for not allowing overspending that will cause me not to have
money.
15. Moreover, I will use social intelligence to obtain important information about the community
development to contribute in program such as, science and technology. I will social intelligence to enter
into agreement for the purpose to generate profit. According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, “Critics have
charged that intelligence tests favor groups from more affluent backgrounds and discriminate against
less privileged racial, ethnic, or social groups. Consequently, psychologists have attempted to develop
culture-free tests that would more accurately reflect an individual's native ability,” (Intelligence, 2010)
social intelligence is my ability to meet my expectation to increase my winning.
16. Social exchange
Intelligence in social exchange is to imply that if I give something, I want something in return to
indicate that my helping with the winning lottery is to generate profit to help the poor, it is about
business, and if I help financially, I expect the alternative such as, working for me. My winning the
lottery is not for entertainment. It is about give and take to fulfill society expectation to assist the
poor. According to Encyclopædia Britannica for “gift exchange” is an “obligations to give, to receive,
and to return. Sanctions may exist to induce people to give, disapproval or loss of prestige resulting
from a failure to do so” (Gift, 2010) to impose no charity without profit.
My social exchange for give and take is about helping the poor to create small businesses that
would help them to generate profit by investing. In addition, I will generate revenue with buying and
selling real estate, investing in science and technology, and contributing to an organization for profit.
With my winnings, I desire to continue working until my retirement to avoid overspending. The con to
my social exchange is that I will have enemies, and many will dislike me for being stingy. However, my
generosity to help other to make money with having business provides better chance for success.
17. My social exchange is using the lottery to make more money, which contradicts the notion to
spend money. However, to be happy is seeing the money accumulate. In my social exchange, I am
not going to be compatible with friends who see my winnings as prestige to show off with spending,
whereas, I see my winnings as an opportunity to be productive with investing and creating the
potential to make more money. According to an article by Carol Werner and Pa Parmelee from
“Similarity of Activity Preferences among Friends” suggest that “One manifestation of the
phenomenon would be people's selection of friends who enjoy doing the same sorts of things which
they enjoy regardless of attitudinal similarities or dissimilarities” (Werner & Parmelee 1979). My social
exchange is to “grow” money according to this online image by Getty.
18. Conclusion
One seldom danger for winning the lottery is that you do not know who to trust because when it comes to
money even family can take advantage of you, along with others. Winning the lottery requires you to make the
best use of your intelligentsia to avoid danger and the pitfalls associated with winning the lottery, especially in
today’s trend of generating revenue for the public that can put you in harms way. Winning the lottery makes you
susceptible to fraud that possibly by the government. The buyer should beware when applied to winning the
lottery, and if you are lucky enough to be successful with your winnings, know when the deal is over with your
own creation for making money. According to article by Mark Lutter, “Winning a lottery brings no happiness”
(Lutter, 2007). Lutter still paying the bill in addition to the painstaking experience from having a friend turn
against him after the money was gone.
