Loki is a shape-shifting trickster god and god of mischief in Norse mythology. He caused the death of Balder, the god of tears, by convincing the blind god Hod to throw a mistletoe dart at Balder that killed him. In response, the gods bound Loki with his son's entrails and placed a serpent above him to drip venom on him, which causes earthquakes when Loki writhes in pain. Loki is prophesied to be freed during Ragnarok, the end of days, where he will join the giants in battle against Heimdallr and both will die.
