Other providers are seeing similar resultsWe’re in a P2P moment, given all that online technology allows us to do
In all cases, our research demonstrated that participants who use social media tools set higher fundraising goals, raise more money, and reach more donors. We also found, however, that each of the popular social media tools has a slightly different impact on event participants’ fundraising.
CanadaHelps offers GivingPagesWhether or not you use GPs or another online tool, after reviewing the Blackbaud information, it’s clear that all of your fundraising events much have an online donation page
- You can’t just give the link to the setup tool and expect your fundraisers to start raising thousands of dollars, you need to build tools and resources for your fundraisers if you want them to have success.
Steps for Life
Help them create a list of all people they might ask, including those in their social networks (work colleagues, friends, etc…)Help them set a realistic goal – remember those who set a fundraising goal tend to raise more funds
We see many charities provide a standard bit of text for fundraising pages… but we know that what encourages people to give is an emotional connection.Encourage fundraisers to explain why they care about the cause, or their personal connection to the issue at hand – nothing beats a personal storySteps for Life exampleOf course, this is the kind of content that people will share on social media, so make sure you encourage it
Email and social media are particularly important in getting people to give.
So simple, but this is absolutely key. As I mentioned, you can’t just put out the call to fundraise and assume everyone will maintain their energy – this is something they’re adding to their already busy schedules. Infuse them with the energy they need to keep going. Set up a regular email, but don’t forget other channels. Make sure that you’re communicating across all channels. Sending campaign updates through SM makes it easier for
- When you send emails out, include suggested tweets or Facebook updates… make it really easy for your fundraisers
