  1. Facilitator Thank you all for coming in today. INTROs by Deborah
  2. Ed-Address these three items and give the business perspective
  3. Pennywise pound foolish. What is the best use of your time? Why connect with one business at a time when you can reach multiple potential business partners all at one time. Don’t reinvent the wheel.
  4. A good foundation-born of recognizing the needs of the school system, the needs of the students, and the needs of business community. Group Discussion 10 minutes- Student – Teachers and schools – Business - Three groups Ask what are some of these needs? Curriculum that fulfills requirements Engaging students that make their academics relevant Adding the tools for success-workshops that tie what they are learning together In the areas of communication skills, professionalism, networking, understanding the business partner’s perspective Supporting the Directors and the teacher teams to success Helping them make connections and network Filling in the resource gaps Helping them augment their programs with the talents of business partners who want to be involved Teacher retention-enabling them to make a difference Students-revelance-why am I here? Why is all of this stuff important to me. What will the experience do for me? The needs of business, taboo…the chambers of commerce in your community do a variety of things to help their member businesses succeed and grow, foster economic development in their community, advocacy for small businesses. Why really is what’s going on the high schools even important to us? I mean really. Well it is. It is not just competition on our own communities for talent that concerns us any more but competition in our own states, at the national level and globally that concerns all of us. If you chamber of commerce in your community is not concerned about where our next generation of employees, professionals and yes folks even our bosses are coming from they need to be. 1998 study-usdepartment of labor HR managers are creating ways to keep ahold of their retiring workforce with flexiable schedules strategies for utilizing retiree volunteers. The average age of the Partnership Internal
  5. Ed Kinberg-About the kids, about the business community, about the schools all of us getting together.
  6. Your thirty second commercial-did you know as academy directors and teachers you are now in the marketing industry? Example.
  7. Partnership-This is obvious to most of you. It is much easier to catch fish in a barrel then in the ocean. You are trying to make connections with businesses. While you can and may programs do meet with some success through your chamber of commerce you can reach a large population of businesses at one time. The typical business partners who become involved with the chamber are interested in community involvement by nature. Depending on the focus of your academy you might be able to get involve with the chamber at events that garner the types of business partners you are looking for all in one place. This is a far better use of your time then Internal-support for you’re academy directors. Making the business contacts. Setting up guest speakers. Making connections How do we track our success?-Photos, documenting events, getting the word out Recognition pregram for the business partners Acknowledgement of our Student’s achievements, Recognition of our teachers and Recognition of our business partners
  8. Whether or not you are working through an entity like your chamber of commerce you want to make sure that you reach out to a diverse population of supporters for your programs. If an economic shift occurs resources from one organization might dry up making program sustainability a uphill battle at the least. But always continuing to cultivate new relationships with business partners you lower your risk of coming up short on program resources and increase your potential for long term sustainability for your program.
  9. 1998 DOL report MFG Report Construction Report
  10. Student Benefit-real experience, real world perspective, networking-Courtney Culver will speak about that in a few minutes Business Benefit-well prepared workforce that has a better understanding of what is expected in the work place and that has the basic skills to make them successful. The chamber is serving the business partners, the students and the community
