delivery with their strategic objectives
Naggib Chakhane:
I was tasked to assess the premise that the client could achieve
their strategic business outcomes, drive significant cost savings
and improve efficiency by aligning the service delivery model
through centralising and relocating the core business processing
functions to a lower cost geographical area.
Client:
Naggib helped us to clearly identify the areas of the business
that would benefit from the synergistic approach of a Shared
Service Centre (SSC) and with his extensive knowledge and
skillset, built a robust and well researched business plan that got
board approval. His in-depth research and analysis clearly
identified where we should locate our SSC and we used that as a
basis to implement the right systems and processes, resulting in
improved efficiency and real and sustainable value to our
business. His understanding of the business offered a vision and
insight which was key to our transformation.

Main challenges:
Poor service delivery model and non-standardised processes scattered
across 7 European countries. Duplication of activities and a disconnected
value chain. Lack of credible management information, thus compromising
management’s ability to make informed decisions.
Overcoming the challenges:
Started with an in-depth analysis of existing European structure to identify
inefficiencies and functions to remain in-country and those that could be
migrated to a Shared Service Centre (SSC).
Researched possible SSC locations in Eastern & Central Europe with a key
focus on cost attractiveness, availability of skilled labour, language
capabilities, scalability, political and economic stability and availability of
government support and incentives.
What value was your role to them:
Brought a fresh and independent perspective to what could have been a
politically charged situation. Was able to deploy my extensive financial
skills and strategy development capabilities to build a robust financial
model and business case to substantiate and highlight the advantages of
the business process transformation.
Realisable benefits included US$25m in cost savings, thus adding 2% to
operating profit and an overall reduction in headcount of 24%
4. Profile: Naggib Chakhane MBA
Naggib is a seasoned finance and corporate strategy professional with over 20 years
senior management experience, gained in multinational corporations, SME’s and
business start-ups. He acts as strategic advisor to several SME’s and start-ups.
Naggib spent the last 16 years consulting with, or as part of the management team of
various corporations including Sterling Software Inc., Toshiba, Diebold International,
SC Johnson, Novartis Pharmaceuticals and Iron Mountain Europe. He spent nearly two
years in South Africa as the CFO of a now very successful and rapidly expanding startup retail foreign exchange company.
Naggib is passionate about working with entrepreneurs and SME’s to help them realise
