Mathematics teachers are confronted with a multitude of instructional impediments as a result of the current reform-oriented vision for teaching mathematics. One of such vision for mathematics instruction is the adoption of a problem solving teaching approach. But, any shift in pedagogy towards such teaching reform requireschanges not only in the ‘ institutionalised curriculum ’ but most importantly deeper changes in teachers' beliefssystem (Ernest, 1989b; Bishop, 1996). Many studies (e.g Halversceid & Rolka, 2006) have called for theattention to teachers beliefs as the focus of research and for understanding and improving teaching practices.Particularly, studies on the relationship between belief and practice have shown that teachers' beliefs play asignificant role in shaping their instructional practices.However, studies that examine the discrepancies between teacher beliefs and practices specific to problemsolving in mathematics remain sparse (Anderson, White & Sullivan, 2005). This paper seeks to discuss therelationship between beliefs and practices specific to mathematics teachers. It presents a critical literatureappraisal that elucidates the potential disparities between teachers' problem solving beliefs and their teaching practices (Ernest, 2004; Raymond, 1997; Anderson, White & Sullivan, 2005) as well as how the social context of teaching mediates these theoretical constructs. The paper argues for espoused and enacted beliefs as impacting on teachers' practices. These beliefs are underpinned by the teacher's epistemology and ethical perspectives. These, in turn, influence teachers' conceptions of knowledge and the nature of mathematics as well as their views about mathematics pedagogy. Most importantly, the paper acknowledges the teacher's thought process and the constraints and opportunities of the classroom or school settings as the germane factors that influence the apparent in congruence between teachers' problem solving beliefs and practices.

Presenters representing various perspectives (e.g., community-based agency, Education, and Juvenile Justice) shared their experience of blending services and dollars within the School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (SWPBIS) framework to identify and provide rapid access to treatment to students that would otherwise be fragmented. It is estimated that as many as one in every six children in the country has a developmental or behavioral disability. Yet, only one out of five of those children receive the mental health services they need. Of those children that receive services, approximately 80% do so within a school setting. The relationship between social and emotional development to achievement has been well-documented. Subsequently, there has been considerable attention on the development of models for mental health in schools, including social emotional learning, school-wide prevention systems and more timely and effective treatment options for youth with more intensive mental health challenges.

I have learned that one of the most refreshing impacts concerning parents is because mainly we work with their kids who are reaching the adolescent stage in regions of their personal/social, academic success, career development, and realm. Their work comprises of working in intervention and prevention (Denno et al., 2015). Counselors help students like who undergo rough times, for instance, in adolescent and help them in enlightening their skills of resilience to be equipped better in case of hitting tough times in the future. The adolescent stage is characterized by uneven and dramatic integration of changes that are developmental into the day to day lives of young persons. Simultaneously, teenagers experience growing independence from their families, mood swings, and at times, rapidly increasing sexuality. The tasks of talking to them usually start within the units of the family. Often, as guardians, we tend to view our teens as fragile thus visit our pediatricians or doctors since we see them as people whom to seek advice from regarding both behavioral and physiologic issues (Shechtman, 2017). The ongoing relationship with the pediatrician and the family gives for enough prospects to offer support and guidance that is anticipated as our kids get into and move through the stage of adolescence. Determinants of Parenting As we all know, the parent-child relationship has a massive influence on most aspects of the development of a child. When behaviors, parenting skills, and optimal capabilities have a positive effect on the school achievement or self-esteem of a child, there is positive behavior and development on the kids. Fig: Family-Based Therapy Some other treatment programs that can be used to work in families include family therapy, family-centered therapy, or family-based therapy. These programs change from one to the other. These are effective when it comes to family counseling and help in coming to terms with the stage or any disorder that could arise in the process. As far as I am concerned, therapy is vital when looking at parenting approaches. This is because when an individual is a child, through adolescent to when they mature to being adults, they require guideline on being better per.

For the past 35 years, at least, voices within the school psychology community have called for a re-thinking of the role of psychology and psychologists within public schools. The test and place activities of school psychologists have overwhelmed their professional practice with predictable results. Few teachers or administrators see school psychologists as resources for teaching and learning expertise, but rather as mere gatekeepers to special education services of unknown effectiveness. The calls for change have come using different conceptual vehicles, for example, mental health or behavioral consultation, curriculum based assessment, treatment validity of assessments, and most recently response to intervention. All, however, speak to the same issues: · Children’s mental health is tied directly to their academic success. · Behavioral success for children is related to instructional expertise of teachers. Changing how we conceptualize and implement our practice is complicated by many organizational and regulatory forces and is compromised by some basic assumptions of modern psychology. Until those assumptions are dismissed, change is unlikely.

Do not include the vignette in your assignment> Narrative Therapy A narrative therapist would listen respectfully to John and Mary’s stories, and to understand the influence that these stories have had on their lives (Corey, 2013). “Because of the power of dominant culture narratives, individuals tend to internalize the messages from these dominant discourses, which often work against the life opportunity of the individual” (p. 410). Growing up in a culture where he may have experienced racism and prejudice, John may have internalized a story that children must toughen up to the world. “Within the family, African-American parents use a number of disciplinary actions that prepare children to live in a racist environment where unfairness and discrimination are common. In that vein, respect for authority is typically nonnegotiable in African-American families; children who are disrespectful receive the most severe forms of punishment-usually physical” (Evans, 2013, p.65). Thus, the heavy-handed discipline John experienced himself as a child may be an acceptable cultural narrative of his own parenting style with his sons today. John’s view of the school of hard knox may represent his narrative that his sons should attend school where they will learn to, cope with racism, which includes developing a tough skin. Mary may have internalized a story from her own childhood where traditional African-American mothers raise daughters to be empowered and independent but for their sons, independence is not stressed as strongly and punishment is not as severe, often enabling their male children (Evans, 2013). This could explain her desire to protect and her sons from harmful aspects of life and John’s harsh disciplinary measures. The therapist must be aware of stereotyping and learn how to recognize diversity issues and work with John and Mary in the context of their worldview. It is an ethical obligation for counselors to develop sensitivity to cultural differences (Corey, 2013). While John’s style of discipline may be culture-laden, the therapist must look at his or her own professional obligation according to the legal and ethical code of the state in which they work. Listening with an Open Mind Narrative therapists must listen to clients without judgment or blame, affirming and valuing them. This might be difficult for the therapist in the vignette since there is already a judgment on John through problematic narratives of the therapist’s own father. The therapist may have difficulty working with John without imposing their value systems and interpretations. The therapist must listen to this couple’s problem-saturated stories without getting stuck (Core.

1 Quantitative Analysis Project: Assignment Overview Social support is critical to the well-being of children and adolescents (Hughes, 2011). Positive relationships with others promote health, self-esteem and prosocial behavior (Cohen, Gottlieb, & Underwood, 2000). Additionally, socially supportive relationships can buffer the harmful effects of stressful life events, such as an illness, conflict, or parental divorce. The home and school contexts are the two primary sources of support for most children (Harter, 2012). Unfortunately, many children do not receive the support they need from these sources (Zelkowitz, 1987). Given the importance of social support, researchers are currently exploring other potential sources of support in the broader community. The purpose of this study is to explore the church as one such potential source of positive relationships, love and affirmation for children by studying the effects of a relationship-based children’s ministry model. Background Every Generation Ministries (EGM) is an international non-profit organization that trains and resources church children’s workers on six different continents. The churches in many of the countries where EGM works lack a cohesive model for children’s ministry and tend to follow cultural norms when ministering to children. For example, churches in Eastern Europe, which are part of the former Soviet Bloc, are more likely to provide lecture-based instruction focused on memorization with little opportunity for interaction or relationship-building. EGM develops national ministry teams which provide leadership development programs and Bible teaching resources for children’s workers in local churches. The ministry model is focused on spiritually transforming children through innovative instructional experiences, positive relationships with adults and peers, small group discussion, 2 and application opportunities. These pedagogical features are theorized to promote social support transmission. Prior literature in the school context has found that positive student relationships with adults and peers can be promoted through smaller learning communities (McNeely et al., 2002) and the explicit teaching of prosocial behavior (Osterman, 2000), both of which are meaningful components of the EGM model. Furthermore, child-centered teaching, comparable to the child-focused elements of the EGM ministry model, have been associated with a greater sense of classroom community in public schools (Solomon et al., 1996). The Present Study In order to evaluate whether it is accomplishing its mission, EGM initiated the Crucible Project. The Crucible Project is an effort to apply behavioral science research methods to evaluate and improve the ministry.
