2. School Magazine
Front Cover
The main factor which has changed
between the beginning of the year when
I created this magazine and the end
when I finished my music magazine is
my improvement with using Photoshop
(which I went into detail about in the
previous question).
This front cover was my first real
attempt at using Photoshop. I tried
many editing techniques and
experimented with different texts and
the arrangement of the page-it was good
practice for the real thing!
3. When I created my school magazine it was my
first time learning to use the clone tool, which
I found very useful to clean up the background
of the photo. I used this tool many times in my
music magazine when I was editing figures
[photo below] It was very useful to edit hair
because it was easy to draw hair with the exact
colours of the original.
4. This is the before and after of my school magazine. I actually started with a photo which I
loved, so there wasn’t much editing to do on the actual photo, the majority was in the text.
5. The main and most noticeable difference between my two A factor which has been brought up a lot in my Evaluation is
magazines is the fact that I used just a photo for my that I should have used an outline on my music magazine
school magazine and a figure on a colour background for front cover masthead, which I did actually use on my school
my music magazine. Because of this my first magazine magazine. When I outlined the Masthead of my school
can look slightly more professional in comparison magazine I intended for it to represent the school colour,
because my music magazine is very bright and colourful when I was experimenting on my music magazine I tried
so looks like it is aimed at a younger audience. outlining the Masthead but I felt it was slightly overdone
because I had outlined so much of my other text.
Another noticeable
difference between
my magazines is
the volume of text
used on each front
cover. On my
school magazine
there is much less
text, and because
of that the page
can look quite
spacious, however,
it still looks okay
because of the
interesting photo
in the background-
having so much
space on my music
magazine wouldn’t
work because of
the plain colour.
My music
magazine has
much more text,
which fills the
space and makes it
more interesting
to look at.
6. I didn’t use a banner on either of my magazines (the white bar on the school Another difference between my magazines is
magazine is a mistake made when saving it). Having banners could have that I used smaller photos on my music
improved both of them, however, it probably would have worked better on magazine, which could have been used to fill
my music magazine-the main mistake I made was having a white banner at the space on my school magazine. I also used
the bottom of the page when I should have made it black and changed the smaller bits of text like the Japanese writing
colour of the text. Because the banner is white it is very hard to see and it and ‘chances to win’ to fill the smaller spaces of

In a strange way
the arrangement
of the masthead
and the date on
my school
magazine looks
much neater and
more
professional on
my school
magazine.
Because of the
illustrated
cherries on my
music magazine,
the date and
issue number
ended up looking
slightly messy,
however, I
wanted my
music magazine
to be bright and
fun so it was
worth it to make
the page look
slightly messy
overall.
