Repositories are one of the main open access routes in the dissemination of scholarly communication. Their role had to be redefined after the RCUK Open Access Policy and the Finch Report, which supported gold open access and mentioned that repositories are suitable only for dissertations and grey literature. On the other hand, in the "Consultation on open access in the post-2014 Research Excellence Framework" the outputs that will count for the next REF must be included in an institutional repository. In this talk we will discuss the main updates regarding repositories and the library's role in this constantly changing environment. This talk will be of particular value to anyone registered for CILIP Chartership and can contribute towards CPD requirements. We encourage you to blog or tweet about this event - do let us know if you blog it and tweet with #ciliplndn CILIP in London evening meetings are open to all with a professional interest in the topic. - See more at: http://www.cilip.org.uk/london/events/value-and-importance-repositories#sthash.f3IjZGX2.dpuf

8. House of Commons
Business, Innovation and Skills Committee
21-27 October 2013
§24. The major mechanism through which the UK has achieved its world
leading status (Green open access) has been given inadequate
consideration…
§41. We recommend that RCUK also requires data on subscription
expenditure from UK HEIs to establish the impact of its policy on
subscription purchasing and pricing.
§49. We note the absence of evidence that short embargo periods harm
subscription publishers. We have seen evidence that current UK open
access policy risks incentivising publishers to introduce or increase
embargo periods.
§57. We conclude that the Finch Report, the Government and RCUK have
failed to assess adequately the existing levels of APCs that are charged by
a range of open access journals
