Известный сайт Wordle.net можно с успехом
использовать в практике обучения английскому
языку / изучения английского языка.
Инструмент Wordle позволяет создавать
“облака слов”, в эти облака можно превратить
любой линейный текст. Слово становится
больше или меньше в зависимости от
частотности его употребления в тексте.

Wordle не единственный сервис, позволяющий
генерировать облако слов, и возможностей
использования подобных ему
сервисов в учебном классе намного больше.
3. Обучаем лексики при помощи «Облака Слов»
Tagul - веб-сервис, позволяющий создать
облако слов из текста, взятого с
указанного URL (адрес веб-страницы)
или введенного (скопированного) пользователем.
Облако может быть представлено в различных
формах и цветовых гаммах. Каждое слово в
облаке при наведении на него курсора выделяется
и представляется как гиперссылка.
Мой пример: я скопировала текст с данной
презентации и получила вот такое облако:

Word It Out - создает облако из текста, который
вводит (копирует) пользователь.
Регистрации не требуется.

Созданное облако можно
представить в любом
виде, например, птички,
сердечка или карты
Китая. Есть возможность
изменения цвета,
размера, положения, формы,
фона и расстояния
между словами. Я представила свое облако в
виде ладони. Каждое слово в облаке при
наведении на него курсора, также как и у сервиса
Tagul, выделяется и представляется как
гиперссылка.

Fourth grade students spent classroom time writing about their
strengths.
They put these writing pieces in Wordle and made posters and
displayed them on their lockers.
Before the dictionary comes out, give your students a new vocabulary
word and ask them to brainstorm all the words they associate with it.
Gather up all the brainstormed words for a Wordle.
After the term has been formally defined, repeat the
process and compare to the "pre-dictionary" Wordle.

• Talk about favourite colours.
• Each child then types their favourite colour into the text part of wordle.
• The wordle created automatically shows the most favoured colour.
• Other ideas - birthday month, fav. animals, hardest spelling word,
feelings etc.
• Could easily adapt to higher tasks and polls.
As a pre-reading exercise - copy/paste text of reading into a Wordle
and ask students to predict what the main ideas of the reading will be.
Another pre-reading option - give them a Wordle of a non-fiction reading
and ask them to use the Wordle to generate a title or headline before
they see the real article.
Post reading - ask them to reflect on the reading based on a prompt
(examples - main idea, what you've learned, funniest element, etc). Then
collect all their reflections into a Wordle.

In reading groups
have students choose a character and add as many words as they can.
Compare results- why do we know more about some than others?
If students are preparing for a holiday like Christmas,
Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, etc.
They could Wordle wedding vows, family stories, favorite love
songs of their parents or grandparents, or just the names
of the people in their families to create a very personal,
but creative and artistic gift that’s suitable for framing.

To encourage writing fluency, incorporate power writing into your
daily program. Enter vocabulary, science text, or poem text
into Wordle . Display for students as idea prompts.
Students think for thirty/sixty seconds, then write continuously
for two (or three/four) minutes without stopping without worry of
conventions. Stop. Count words. Repeat two more times.
Wordle a collection of words that represent parts of speech.
Change the colors to white words on a black background
in Wordle and print on an overhead transparency.
Project the Wordle onto a large sheet of butcher paper
and ask the kids to come and color nouns a certain color,
verbs a different color, etc. An extension of this would be to Wordle
Characters and Character traits, print overhead transparency and project.
Use a color to connect characters with their specific traits.

Create and post your weekly spelling list using Wordle.
Instead of a traditional "Word Wall," what about a "Wordle Wall?"
Using a student as a "Wordle Recorder," have students brainstorm
definitions, adjectives, and synonyms for words, type into
the Wordle Creator, along with the key word. Hang on the
wall so that students can get a contextual reference of that
class's vocabulary.

Copy the frontpage of a news website in a second language.
Pick out the most important / common vocab to focus on...
Wordles can support the development of reading skills eg. inference
& deduction: Make two Wordles from different sections
of the class novel. Discuss with guided reading groups
which section comes first & encourage pupils to give
their reasons. I often find that this is an activity which
has led to some great discussions within groups &
helped develop some good speaking skills too.

You can paste in short texts that your students
have studied recently. Show them the word cloud and see if they
can remember what the text was about and how the words were
used within the text. You can build up a bank of word clouds over
a semester and pull them out at random to get students to recall
the texts they have studied and the key vocabulary in them. You
could also see if they could rewrite or reconstruct the text based
on the word cloud.
You can create a word cloud
of a dialogue students are studying and use it as a
prompt to remember or reconstruct the dialogue.
13. Результативность
Использование сервиса «Облака слов» позволяет учителю
разнообразить учебный процесс, тем самым увеличить
эффективность обучения и способствовать
дополнительной мотивации учащихся на уроке. Данный
сервис помогает развить память, языковую догадку и
творческое воображение у учащихся. Наглядная подсказка
в виде ключевых слов – это замечательный способ
стимулировать беглую речь.
