Antarctica is Earth's southernmost continent, located almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle. It is the coldest, driest, and windiest continent, with an average annual temperature of around -57 degrees Fahrenheit (-49 degrees Celsius). Nearly all of Antarctica is covered by ice that averages 1.9 miles (3 kilometers) in thickness, containing around 70% of all the fresh water on Earth.
