2. Use of the passive voice
● When we use an active verb, we say what the subject does:
“He built the house in 1935.”
● When we use a passive verb, we say what happens to the subject:
“The house was built in 1935.”
● When we use tha passive, who or what causes the action is often unknown or unimportant.
“A lot of money was stolen in the robery.”
● If we want to say who does or what causes the action, we use “by...”
“A lot of money was stolen in the robery by two women.”
● We make the passive voice with be (is/was...) + past participle (written/seen/cleaned...)
● We can´t use the passive voice with intransitive verbs.
3. Examples
● Presente simple:
Two hundred people are employed by the company
● Past simple:
The house was built by my grandfather.
● Present perfect simple:
The concert has been cancelled.
● Past perfect simple:
The vegetables had been cooked too long.
● Future with will:
Doors will be closed at 10 o´clock.
● Going to future:
The restaurant is going to be opened in a few minutes.

That old woman should be helped by her grandchildren.
5. Active to passive transformation
● In an active voice the sentence position is:
Subject + active verb + Object
● In a passive voice the sentence position is:
Object + passive voice + (by) Subject
● Somebody cleans this room every day.
● This room is cleaned by somebody every day.
● The bank gave me a loan.
● I was given a loan (by the bank).
● A loan was given to me (by the bank).
6. Turn sentences into passive voice
● The manager offered me a loan.
I was offered a loan.
A loan was offered to me (by the manager).
● Somebody is using the computer at the moment.
The computer is being used (by somebody) at the moment.
● They have built a new hospital near the airport.
A new hospital have been built (by them) near the airport.
● Somebody accuses me of stealing money.
I am accused (by somebody) of stealing money.
● You are going to clean the room.
The room are going to be cleaned (by yours).
7. Turn sentences into passive voice
● The manager offered me a loan.
