Brief Introduction
Street animals are a sad reality in India. Most private cow-
shelters are full beyond capacity and public shelters are least
spoken about.
Cows, bulls, dogs, pigs, and cats are the most common street
animals we see in India. They can be abandoned or lost, sick
or healthy, old or young, unwanted and "useless" or owned but
not looked after; whatever their reason of existing on the
streets, they are there, trying to survive. The basic needs of a
majority of these animals are not met.
Hunger drives them to look for food everywhere including
garbage generated by humans.

3. Painful Death
Our cities do not have garbage segregation as the norm, and
citizens are not conscious of this at the personal level. As a
result, animals end up eating stale and stinking waste from
garbage disposal units.
When plastic (most commonly used to dispose-off waste in
households) along with other non-degradable harmful (toxic)
matter enters the intestines of these animals, they usually
end up dying painfully.

These places smell horribly & its difficult for any human being to stand here for
2 minutes. These animals have to eat here daily for hours.

4. Conditions at Animal Shelters
Ever wonder what happens to street cows that are picked up by public authorities ?
Animals are packed together in very small areas. They can be in this situation for as long as a week to three weeks or more.

Most of these centers are badly maintained and animals poorly fed. The floors are filthy and the whole place stinks of cow dung
and urine. Animals like to be in the open & therefore the need for open green centers (farmland) for these animals.

Why Ek Roti Roz ?
The Program Ek Roti Roz – which literally means One Roti
(bread) Daily, was started to give an alternative to these
helpless animals. One that will fill their stomachs with food
and not garbage. We believe that just because they are on the
streets, does not mean they have to suffer in this way. Surely
they deserve our compassion and caring.
In Indian culture, there has always been the concept of
making Chappatis or Rotis (made from whole wheat) for the
gaay (cows) and kutta (dogs). Modern Society, however,
seems to have no time nor concern for street animals. Rural
communities still follow this tradition and we will endeavour
to support these initiatives.

7. Ek Roti Roz : The Main Purpose
Our final goal is to have a farm (open shelter) to
house as many animals as we can. And then more
such shelters across India. We are working towards
securing this dream of a place, where we see cattle
munching grass on rolling green pastures.
But till that happens, and for those still on the roads,
we want to feed them with fresh and clean food. And
for that we need your support.

9. Ek Roti Roz : Distributions (feeding)
Animals eating garbage is very common in cities of India. Inspite of
our sincere efforts we are at present able to feed only a few and
that too once a day.
Though our volunteers search for such stray animals on main roads,
by lanes, and at various garbage disposal places, finding and
feeding is a very time consuming process. These animals are not at
one place. We have to look for them. At some locations we find just
1 cow or a bull, couple of dogs and other places maybe 3 or 4 of
them. Just searching and feeding takes about 2-3 hours daily.
Currently every month we are feeding Chokar (wheat bran), Milk,
Bread and Biscuits in addition to Rotis.
You will be surprised to know that Cows & Bulls have a big appetite
and there are hundreds of hungry stray dogs searching for food daily
in garbage. With the current available resources we are able to feed
only a small percentage of the total stray animals in the country.
The magnitude of the problem is quite huge.
Therefore, we are looking for outside contributions
in kind And Or money.
