The document discusses how to evaluate designs in a continuous process. It explores developing skills to accurately evaluate progress and be ready to redirect resources in response to changes. The class looks at tools for flexible creation when dealing with complex, ever-changing systems. Criteria for evaluation include sustainability, vision, objectives, and personal expression. Guidelines are given on clarifying vision and objectives from the start.

PDC+++ Module 2 Class 8
1. Class 2.8 of the PDC+++ ¿How do we evaluate our designs? Design is a continuous process, so being able to see whether a project is moving in the right direction & accurately evaluating progress, being able & ready to re-direct resources & efforts in order to respond creatively to surrounding co-designs & changing circumstances ... is an essential part of the whole. In this class we look at how to develop these crucial skills & explore some of the tools we use for creating flexibly with complex & ever-changing Life forces.
2. Class2.8 PDC+++ ¿How do we evaluate our designs? Is it Sustainable? Are we closer to the Vision? Does it express who I am? Does it meet the Objectives? Does it meet the Criteria?
3. Evaluate Why is evaluation even harder than observation? Think/ Reflect Act Observe Design

9. Derreck Jensen Deep Green Resistance , 2011 DeepGreenResistance.org Those who come after, who inherit whatever's left of the world once this culture has been stopped - whether through peak oil, economic collapse, ecological collapse, or the efforts of brave women & men resisting in alliance with the natural world - are going to judge us by the health of the landbase , by what we leave behind. They're not going to care how you or I lived our lives. They're not going to care how hard we tried. They're not going to care whether we were nice people. They're not going to care whether we were nonviolent or violent. They're not going to care whether we grieved the murder of the planet. They're not going to care whether we were enlightened or not. They're not going to care what sort of excuses we had to not act (eg. "I'm too stressed to think about it, " or "It's too big & scary, " or "I'm too busy, " or "But those in power will kill us if we effectively act against them," or "If we fight back, we run the risk of becoming like they are," or "But I recycled," or any of a thousand other excuses we've all heard too many times). They're not going to care how simply we lived. They're not going to care how pure we were in thought or action. They're not going to care if we became the change we wished to see. They're not going to care whether we had "compassion" for the CEOs & politicians running this deathly economy. They're going to care whether they can breathe the air & drink the water. We can fantasize all we want about some great turning, but if the people (including the nonhuman people) can't breathe, it doesn't matter. Lierre Keith Aric MacBay

11. Is it possible that any type of civilization be sustainable? 4. Bill Mollison, Designers' Manual A system is sustainable when it creates / stores more energy / matter in its lifetime than that which it needs to create & maintain it.

13. Robert Fritz The Path of Least Resistance WHY HOW WHAT feet on ground! The Big Vision
14. Robert Fritz The Path of creativity There is a profound difference between problem solving and creating. Problem solving is taking action to have something go away- the problem. Creating is taking action to have something come into being – the creation. feet on ground! The Big Vision
15. The Problem Action to solve the problem Less intensity in the problem Less action to solve the problem The problem remains A necessary approach when faced with an emergency That helps us to gain time Time to focus on what we want to create
16. therefore It is very important you have your vision as clear as possible ¿What about your mind-movies?
21. PC design IMPETUS DC design A Perceived social problem Stimulated x Erection of monuments, make money Energy conservation, self-reliance, harmony .. Regulated x Economic considerations Long term bio-social factors Guided (mediated) x Material factors and short term costs consultation with clients, assisting them learning design Achieved x External funding, little or no consultation ... Leaving space and funding to redesign via feedback. Refined x Selling off and not taking responsibility for the results Dynamic and healthy place with people empowered to make necessary changes Conse-quences Population disconnected, disempowerment to effect changes> anxiety and dependence The stability of dynamic local adjustment Results Instability of perceived disempowerment

28. Without a name; an unseen face and knowing not your time nor place Tomorrow’s Child, though yet unborn, I met you first last Tuesday morn. A wise friend introduced us two, and through his sobering point of view I saw a day that you would see; a day for you, but not for me Knowing you has changed my thinking, for I never had an inkling That perhaps the things I do might someday, somehow, threaten you Tomorrow’s Child, my daughter-son I’m afraid I’ve just begun To think of you and of your good, Though always having known I should. Begin I will to weigh the cost of what I squander; what is lost If ever I forget that you will someday come to live here too.
