Because not all IEEE authors are not necessarily members,
IEEE will offer authors an opportunity to register their
ORCID or obtain an ORCID through its Author Gateway
service
The Author Gateway service is IEEE’s communication portal
to its primary authors (i.e. the lead author on the article)
Authors receive proofs, and other authoring-related news
via the portal
An opportunity to expose ORCID to 50,000 authors annually
(if they missed the ORCID during the peer review stage)

IEEE currently re-designing its membership portal

Upon setting up their IEEE Member Profile, user
will be offered opportunity to link to ORCID
