2. Horizontal Fracking
 Continued to lead the call for a moratorium
on horizontal hydrological fracturing
(“fracking”) until the U.S. EPA completes its
review of risks and needed controls to
protect drinking water sources.
 Successfully secured
greater protection of public
well fields from
contamination from fracking.

3. Lake Erie
 Secured the first-ever controls on water
withdrawals from Lake Erie and the
tributaries that drain to it.
 Successfully defended
the right to walk along
the Lake Erie shore in a
landmark Ohio
Supreme Court case.

4. Energy Efficiency
 Successfully expanded Ohio’s energy
efficiency standard to tap the great potential of
recovering wasted heat to use as energy in
industrial processes, reducing harmful air
pollution and displacing coal and nuclear
power.
 Fended off utility giant FirstEnergy’s attempt to
repeal Ohio’s energy efficiency standard,
which is reducing harmful air pollution, saving
wasted energy, growing new clean energy
jobs, and saving consumers money.

5. Renewable Energy
 Repelled attacks on Ohio’s renewable
energy standard, which is generating
clean energy from Ohio-based wind and
solar farms, displacing coal and nuclear
power, reducing harmful air pollutants,
and growing new clean
energy jobs.

6. State Nature Preserves
 Secured continued funding for Ohio’s
superlative system of state nature
preserves by fending off the Governor’s
attempt to dissolve the
Ohio Division of
Natural Areas and
Preserves and by
winning bipartisan
support for the new
funding.

7. Wetlands
In one legal case, the OEC:
 Saved John & Marilyn Saveson from being
unfairly taxed $56,000 for putting their
wetlands into conservation protection.
 Helped farmers and other landowners
make wetlands conservation
affordable.
 Helped keep government
agencies from changing
important policies without
public notice.

8. Clean Ohio Fund
 Successfully secured $48 million in
Clean Ohio Funds to develop
recreational trails and preserve
family farmland, river corridors,
and open space.

9. Outstanding Fiscal Responsibility
 The OEC has a proven track record of
success. For the 6th year in a row, Charity
Navigator has awarded the OEC a 4-star
rating – its highest rating – putting the OEC in
the top 5% of all U.S. charities for fiscal
management.
