2. How effective is the combination of your
main product and ancillary texts?
Trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ikXgo0gJ1o
The combination of my main product and ancillary texts were effective because of the colours,
lighting, font and camera angles which I used for my main product the trailer for Broken Mind
and also the poster and magazine covers. For the magazine cover I used a dark background
with the main character looking straight at the camera in order to connect to the audience. I
used the same font for both my magazine and poster which gave it a creepy look to fulfill the
horror genre. I used a mid shot for both my magazine and poster in order to show from the
waist upwards this enabled me to be able to show the emotion of the character. I also used
the main character Leo who seems like an average guy but is actually completely off his head
and doesn’t seem to know who he is anymore.
3. What key aspects did you include in
your poster?
In my poster I included a picture of the main character in the film, holding
his face which cleverly links to the name of the film ‘Broken Mind’.
Another key aspect which I included in my poster was ‘Ollie Butler’ this is
so that people are drawn to the “auteur” of the film. Another key aspect I
included in my poster was the name of my film ‘Broken Mind’ in a scary
font which obviously indicates that this poster is advertising a horror film.
Underneath the name of the film I put a small caption which says ‘Trapped
in his mind’ this is relevant to the trailer as in our horror trailer Leo the
main character doesn’t know what's happening & can’t escape the demon
which is making him go crazy. I also included the BBFC rating on the poster
to show that Broken Mind is a 15 rated film.
4. What key aspects did you include in
your magazine cover?
Some of the key aspects which I included in my magazine cover is that I used
the main character in my magazine because he is the star of the horror film. I
also included the name of the film ‘Broken Mind’ so the name of the film gets
around so people talk about it. I also had the main character in the image
looking straight at the camera so that he’s connecting with the audience instead
of looking off into the distance looking lost. The name of my magazine is Auteur
which is in a big bold font to make it look professional and stand out. I included
in a small circle an exclusive interview with the main character ‘Ollie Butler’
who plays ‘Leo’ this is one of the main selling points in the magazine. In the
bottom right hand corner I have added that free posters are included in the
magazine as everyone loves free things and this will encourage people to watch
Broken Mind. All down the left hand side of the magazine cover I have included
other films which might also attract people to read the magazine but this also
gets people who are fans of other films to read about the main topic which is
Broken Mind which will gain more of an audience for our film. I have also added
a quote from the main actor.
