Serbia has a long history with Olympism that began in 1910 with the founding of the Serbian Olympic Club. At the 2012 London Olympics, Serbia sent 115 athletes including flag bearer Novak Djokovic. Serbia won 4 medals including Milica Mandic's gold in taekwondo, the country's first gold as an independent nation. Domestically, basketball and water polo have been successful with the national teams achieving silver and fourth place finishes in recent years, while Red Star Belgrade and Partizan Belgrade dominate club volleyball and basketball. Tennis has also become very popular in Serbia led by world number ones Novak Djokovic and Ana Ivanovic.
3. OLYMPISM IN SERBIA
Officially, Olympism in Serbia was established
on 23rd February 1910, when the Serbian
Olympic Club was founded in Belgrade and that
is the first official Olympic organization. Serbia’s
first appearance on the Olympic Games was in
1912.
4. OLIMPIC GAMES IN LONDON
Serbia attended the Olympics in London. This
was the nation's third appearance at the Summer
Olympics. The Olympic Committee of Serbia sent
115 athletes to the Games. Novak Djokovic was
the one to carry the flag of our nation. Serbia left
London with a total of four Olympic medals.
Taekwondo jin Milica Mandic won Serbia's first
gold medal in Serbia’s Olympic history as an
independent nation.

8. BASKETBALL TEAM
The greatest successes are the silver medal on
the European Championship in 2009 and the
fourth place in the World Championship in 2010.

The most successful clubs in our league are
Crvena Zvezda and Partizan.
11. WATER POLO TEAM
In 2012 we won European championship.
We have won this championship 14 times so far.
Filip Filipovic and Vanja Udovicic have been
acknowledged as the best sports players in Europe.
12. TENNIS
In the first decade of the 21st century tennis has
become a popular sport in Serbia.
The most successful tennis players are Novak
Djokovic, Janko Tpsarevic, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena
Jankovic…
Ana Ivanovic is the first Serbian woman to have
gotten the first place on WTA list.
Novak, one of the greatest sports players in the
world, has been on the top of the ATP list for 2
years now. In Beijing he won a bronze medal. He
is considered to be one of the greatest sports
players in the history of Serbian sport.
