L-Lysine is an Essential Amino Acid.
It occurs in relatively small amounts in
vegetables and grains, therefore many
vegetarians, esp. strict vegans,
have low (or suboptimal) levels.
Athletes participating in rigorous, frequent
exercise may also be deficient.

Lysine is a key amino acid involved
in the formation of collagen.
Collagen is the main structural protein and
the most abundant protein in the body.
The Herpes virus is ubiquitous in our society.
It requires high amounts of L-arginine to multiply.
L-lysine competes with and antagonizes arginine thereby
reducing the availability of arginine for herpes virus
replication. (> Lysine is shown to < herpes outbreaks.

Per the Pauling & Rath Unified Theory of
disease, suboptimum levels of key nutrients
(vitamin C & lysine in particular) leads to
weakening of collagen integrity throughout
the body.
This weakness, in turn, contributes to many, if not
all chronic diseases. The two most notable are
cancer and heart disease.

According to this theory, in cancer, cancerous cells are
only able to multiply and/or spread when they exploit
areas of weakened collagen in tissues.
In the case of CV disease and arterial plaque formation,
suboptimal levels (of Vit C and Lysine in particular) leads to
blood vessel weakening and lipoprotein (a) being deposited as
part of the repair process. The damage l/t exposing lysine
which binds to lipoprotein (a), (the sticky LDL that attaches to
damaged spots & cracks in the vessel walls). Lysine (and
proline) can prevent and correct arterial plaque buildup by
occupying binding sites on lipoprotein (a).

5. There is clearly a need for additional Lysine
in most people’s diets, especially those
focusing on plant-based protein sources.
Of course, that’s why we included it in our Paleo
Proteins Perfected!
