2. Struggling with social media content?
Is your Twitter feed just tumbleweed?
Is your LinkedIn lacking lustre?
Is your Google+ more
Google-?
Fear not. Here’s six quick
wins to help you find
share-worthy content for
your social media channels.
And in the spirit of all things
social, feel free to share these
with your colleagues and
contacts.
3. Internal vs. external and
social media frequency
Opinions differ, but as a rule of thumb
you should share three pieces of non-
Planon content for each piece of Planon
content, to make your social media an
‘information channel’ rather than a
‘sales channel’.
Four tweets per day is the ideal number
in B2B, and one LinkedIn update per
week (at least according to
http://www.slideshare.net/DEERdigital/
how-often-should-b2b-companies-
update-social-media-profiles-13900833 )
Four tweets a day sound like a lot of
work? Start with less and build up by
one tweet per day.
4. 1) Find industry experts/influencers in
Twitter and retweet their tweets
Go to Followerwonk -
http://followerwonk.com/
Sign in with your Twitter details (it
will ask you to send a tweet
mentioning them but you can choose
not to do that.)
Click on the ‘Search twitter bios’ tab.
Type a word/phrase you would
expect to find in the bio of our
industry people e.g. facility manager
and click the ‘Do it’ button.
You will be given a list of people who
mention that key word/phrase in
their bio, as well as their location,
how many followers they have, and
what their social authority is etc.
Follow the people of interest and
retweet/share their relevant content.
5. 2) Hashtags and key phrases
Visit http://hashtagify.me/ and
search for hashtags you think may
apply to your market e.g.
#facilitiesmanagement
It then shows you the top 10 related
hashtags, their popularity, and recent
tweets using those hashtags.
You can retweet relevant content or
follow people using these hashtags.
You can also add columns in
Hootsuite to follow relevant
hashtags and key word/phrases so
you’ve a constant supply of new
content for future use.
If you’re not doing it already, make
sure you have a Hootsuite column
following the word ‘Planon’ so you
can respond t anybody who
mentions us.
6. 3) Google alerts
Search for ‘Google alerts’.
Create alerts for words and
phrases relevant to our
industry (as well as
‘Planon’).
When you receive alerts
from Google of relevant
content, share this through
your social channels.
It also works well to help
you stay up to date with
what competitors are
doing…
7. 4) Email alerts – from industry
publications and blogs
Google to find blogs/publications/
associations specific to our
industry e.g. googling ‘facility
management blogs’ returns
41,200,000 results.
Register to receive alerts from the
blogs/publications/
associations of interest.
Share their content through your
social channels.
FYI you can get email updates
from Planon’s blog too by
following the instructions in the
right hand box at DE, FR, NL, UK,
US.
8. 5) Google+ Ripples
Google+ Ripples can be a little harder to find in
niche industries, but still offer a way to find more
general business related content and influential
people.
Find a relevant post in your Google+ timeline that
has a lot of shares (or go to the Google+ page of an
business/industry leader/influencer.)
Scroll their Google+ wall to find a post with a lot of
shares, then click the little downward facing arrow
in the upper right corner of the post (just above the
hashtags - you’ll see it appear when you hover over
the post near the top right corner.)
Choose View Ripples from the dropdown menu.
People who get reshares on their content are likely
to be influential.
Add these people to your circle(s) and share their
relevant content.
9. 6) Competitors
What content are competitors
tweeting? Anything you can
adapt for your own use? Or
people they’re following who
post tweets you may want to
retweet?
Look at competitors’ Google+
walls to find who they are
connected to that you can
connect to (a lot of our
competitors are not active on
Google+ but you can also
search for related key
words/phrases to find
influential people in our
industry.)
