Christmas in Slovenia involves several traditions and figures. During Advent, families light candles on wreaths and make potica, a traditional walnut cake. On December 24th, people decorate trees with ornaments and nativity scenes. Three figures visit children on different days: Miklavž (St. Nicholas) on December 6th with gifts, Božiček (Santa Claus) on December 24th, and Dedek Mraz (Grandfather Frost) before New Year bringing presents. Living nativity scenes are also performed, such as in Postojna Cave.
