2. Illegal Immigrants Every year 1000s of illegal immigrants try and sneak into the uk. More than 50% of them are caught by the uk border agency. This is because, the uk has a very tight security system thanks to recent technology. The Uk has a vast variety of sensors and detectors including the co2 sensor installed in trucks and cargo, and the motion detectors which can even detect breathing.

3. Respiration Respiration is not the same as breathing. Breathing is taking in Oxygen and giving out Carbon Dioxide. However, Respiration is totally different. The word equation for Respiration is: OXYGEN + GLUCOSE = CARBON DIOXIDE + WATER Glucose is a simple sugar and an important carbohydrate in biology. Glucose comes in many types of food but mostly in carbohydrates like bread, rice and pasta. As you eat foods the carbohydrate breaks up in your stomach giving glucose. The glucose is let in to your blood stream and helps the cells in your body.

4. CO2 Detection System CO2 (carbon dioxide) is present in the breath exhaled by the body. Sensitive CO2 detectors sample the air from inside trucks as they arrive from Europe. They can detect illegal immigrants hiding in the truck as the level of CO2 would be higher than it would be if people hadn't been in the truck because they would breath out CO2 for the whole time the truck crossed The Channel.

5. CO2 Detection System (2) The border agency could use the tds detection system which is used to check for termites. This is because, termites produce the most carbon dioxide than any other animal. Therefore, we can check the level of co2 in a truck to see if it is above normal to check if there are any people in the truck.

6. Motion Detectors If they suspect a truck is carrying illegal immigrants, they will bring it into a motion shed which has 4 motion detectors. The u.k border agency also uses motion detectors to check if there is any movement inside a vehicle. These detectors are much stronger than the normal household type, it can even detect people breathing.

7. Motion Detectors (2) Electronic motion devices measure changes in the given environment. The uk border agency uses Ultrasonic detectors which sends out pulses and measures the reflection off a moving object. These motion detectors can detect up to 15–25 meters (50–80 feet). We use 4 detectors to be absolutely sure if someone is in a truck. Using this new technology means that people will use more methods to try and hide.
