• Define sustainable tourism.
• Examine the extent to which it may be successfully implemented in
different environments.
1. Turn to page 137 of Prosser, Leisure, Recreation and Tourism, Second
Edition
2. Read the information on page 137-139 carefully.
3. Make notes on the four different aspects of sustainability in relation to
tourism (p.138)
4. Study figure 7.3 and 7.4 carefully before completing activities 2a-2c
5. Complete activities 4&5. You may need to work to support each other as
these questions are aimed at level 5+ students.
6. Turn to page 141. Add a title ‘Alternative Tourism’ & outline the four main
reasons why alternative tourism has grown in popularity in recent years.
7. Outline the six principles for sustainable tourism as a revision friendly
spider diagram. Can you think of any global examples of each of these
principles?
Use 'Geography - An Integrated Approach ' by David Waugh.
8. Make notes on 'Xcaret, Mexico' from page 598 as a case study
example of ecotourism.
