So let’s start with “WHAT’S NEW?”Architecturally, SharePoint 2013 is similar to SharePoint 2010. But visually, you now see that “METRO UI” interface that Microsoft is using to help rebrand itself; some of which you will see here today. There is also better support for touch-based usage across devices: traditional desktop and laptops, as well as tablets, and smartphones. Mobile browsers also have a lighter UI that renders in HTML5, along with a classic view for browsers that do not support HTML5
Microsoft has redesigned the SharePoint UX to be clean and simple. If you use a browser thatsupports HTML5, you can now drag files to upload them.Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Apple, Safari, and Mozilla Firefox
So, what’s the big change in 2013?There is more alignment with the mobile and tablet world which Has certainly matured in the last few years.Superbly richer BI features on mobileNew social and collaboration features New servicesA focus on the Azure platform, which Qasim will pay special attention to in today’s presentationSkyDrive IntegrationHTML 5 Master PagesAnd,the brand new concepts of “Apps, Marketplace and Office.com”
Let’s talk more about the mobility side of SharePoint
How great will it be that your designers can use Dreamweaver or other popular design products. "Whether that is Adobe Dreamweaver, Microsoft Expression Web, or some other HTML editor.
Let’s talk more about the mobility side of SharePoint
Before the new SharePoint version, the Classic View had Text links, plus the screen was difficult to read. As you can see here, not a lot of thought in the User Interface. In SP2013 there is a fully optimized mobile browser experience. And, there are 2 new views:The contemporary view and the Full screen UI or User InterfaceThe Contemporary, the tablet in the middle, view gives you an optimized mobile browser experience.Thefull screen UI view, which is the tablet on the far right, offers a full desktop view of your SharePoint site on a smartphone device – a view that is very similar to what you would see on your regular laptop or desktop. You now have better control of how you want your site to be viewed.supports applications on mobile devices that should receive notifications from a SharePoint site.A push notification service on a SharePoint site can be enabled to send device updates such as a tile or toast notification to a Windows Phone device.
For better access to your information and BI dashboards, you can easily see data now on iPads and devices that have iOS 5.0 Safari browsers. Also, daily Microsoft Office users can do a lot more with a brand new app…Office Web AppsOffice Web Apps now gives you more functionality when viewing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents in mobile browsers
Let’s talk more about Performance Point servicesObviously you want to have an overall of your organization and view trendsYou now have extremely easy access from your mobile browser, plus it is extremely flexible for the power users!!!!!
Other really cool things about Performance Point Services is that you can bring data from other areas of the business together such as SAP, Oracle, IBM or SQL Server.Powerful charts and graphs allow you to quickly visualize your data and paint a picture of your business. The decomposition tree, as you see here, does a good job of drilling down for you. For the dataheads out there, I find this tends to be one of their favorite things to do!
Now Microsoft wants you to know that SharePoint 2013 is all about collaboration in the enterprise. And this new release represents their commitment to social computing.
For those of you that may remember the feature wheel that Microsoft used to illustrate SharePoint 2010, “Communities” was just one of the components on the wheel. In SharePoint 2013, many of the Community feature gaps have been addressed. What you see here is an out of the box site template for a Community Site.It is now easier to share ideas, keep track of what your colleagues are working on, and discover experts you never knew existed in your organization. Users now have more visibility to different discussions as they roll-up, an easy onboarding process and better moderator control of content and members.
In Communities, conversations & replies become more interesting to those participating. Replies have the power of creating new discussions. Replies can also happen for main-topic or for other replies. You can indicated “The best reply” to help it will bubbleup and show up as the first-reply in the discussion thread.
Reputation is a nice new feature that does a number of things very well.It helps identify experts within an organizationHelps an individual assess their potential value to a community, and encourages end user adoption / participation.
One thing interesting to note is that the overall design of the community site is built on a SharePoint 2013 wiki-page infrastructure, letting you maintain the content without using any web parts. There are also two differentrating systems :You can vote 1 to 5 stars or likes TheRunning reputation can be configured by moderator to define the number of points that are required to move to the next level. People can also report “abuse” for a moderator to act upon.
Communities’ new features are alsostrongly influenced by other top social networks. For example, My Sites now has a very strong microblogging component, complete with likes, hash tags, app mentions, and other social tools you'll recognize from Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.

The workflow architecture is divided between the SharePoint 2013 infrastructure and the WAW infrastructure. As with many of the other SharePoint 2013 enhancements, the driving force for the new workflowframework was designing it to support SharePoint online and multitenant application, overcomingthe significant challenges such environments pose in terms of isolation, scale, and resourcemanagement. The WAW farm consists of two components: a workflow engine and a service bus that facilitatesthe communication among components within the farm by using Open Authentication (OAuth). Youcan build a WAW farm to achieve high availability by joining three servers to the farm because theywork like a mirror with a witness; that is, the servers need to achieve a quorum (you can do this withjust two servers).SharePoint 2013 contains a component known as the Workflow Services Manager, whichmanages and controls workflows. It also contains the workflow interop bridge that negotiatesbetween the SharePoint 2010 workflow host and the WAW workflow engine.
So let’s talk quickly about new application services……
Machine Translation Services gives The new Machine Translation Service enables you to reach more people with new cloud-based translation services capable of translating not only sites, but also their content. App Management Service s allows you to manage SharePoint apps, which you can design yourself or buy from the SharePoint Marketplace. What’s nice is that it manages permission settings and makes sure your license is current before use.The App Catalog - each web application has its own App CatalogThe Microsoft Online Marketplace
