Editor's Notes
Slide 1: Hook/Attention Grabber: Start with statistics of how many animals are killed from plastic waste, accompanied by photographs.
Slide 2: Hook/Attention Grabber: Share story of severe case, such as whale that was found with pounds of plastic in its stomach
Slide 3: The Big Idea: People should stop buying plastic bottles. There are healthier and more environmentally conscious ways and it is taking a huge toll on our environment.
Slide 4: What’s in it for your audience?: The world has an ethical obligation to preserve the planet. We are destroying the ocean with waste. We need the ocean and animals to maintain a natural ecosystem. Refillable bottles are also significantly cheaper than buying bottled water by the case. People are being ripped off.
Slide 5: Why should your audience listen to you?: My audience should listen to me because I’m one of them. I used to be part of the problem. I love the water and the ocean and everything it offers. Like many that also enjoy it, I won’t be able to keep enjoying it if we don’t take care of it.
Slide 6: Call to Adventure: Only 2 out of every 8 water bottles we drink make it to recycling. The rest end up in the landfill, and eventually in the ocean. With a tiny bit more effort we can easily halt massive harm being done to our environment.
Slide 7: Preview 3 main points to support big idea:
A) Plastic bottles are wasted and kill huge amounts of ocean life every day
B) People are wasting tons of money on bottled water when they could be buying a filter or using a refillable bottle.
C) Bottled water is not healthier!!!!
Slide 8: Introduce and set up supporting point 1: We must try to save our ocean and the sea creatures.
Slide 9: Factual Evidence: Every square mile of the ocean has over 46,000 pieces of plastic floating in it.
Slide 10: Factual Evidence: Share various stories of how plastic kills animals
Slide 11: Introduce and set up supporting point 2: People buy bottled water by the case and could be saving tons of money by using a filter and your own bottle
Slide 12: Factual Evidence: Bottled water is 1,000 times the price of tap water.
Slide 13: Factual/emotional evidence: Huge corporations are rolling in cash from sales of water… (Which should bee free)
Slide 14: Introduce and set up supporting point 3: Bottled water is actually not safer/cleaner!!!!
Slide 15: Factual evidence: Bottled water is actually more dangerous and plastic has been linked to cancer
Slide 16: Many bottles of water are just tap water in a bottle.
Slide 17: Call to Action: Show how if we get 5 people to stop buying bulks of these plastic bottles, just how much they are helping fix the problem.
Slide 18: Summarize the main points: Plastic bottles are wasted and enter the ocean killing tons of sea creatures. You are virtually paying for something that is free, and in turn putting money in the pockets of major corporations. You are safer buying a filter and drinking the water from your sink.
Slide 19: People must stop buying water bottles and use a refillable bottle and filter!!!!!
Slide 20: Clincher/New bliss: People honestly don’t know or take the time to care what these massive effects are. Telling just one person a day can spread awareness and begin the fight to save the ecosystem.
