Twitter tweets paper
1. Twitter
The first person I chose to follow on twitter was George Couros. He is currently a
Division Principal of Innovative Teaching and Learning with Parkland School Division located
in Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada. Below is a screen shot of his twitter profile.
As one might be able to tell from those first two tweets, George posts a lot of
motivational things/information. A few things caught my eye when I was scrolling through his
tweets. The first was a tweet that had to do with technology in school.
This reminded me a lot of what we have been talking about in class, and I agree with his
statement. Another thing he uses twitter for is posting links to other websites, including his own
blog. The next two tweets I found very interesting things to read. The first is from his own blog,
and the second is an article.
2. I really liked what he said on his own blog. He gave ten characteristics of what makes a
good teacher, and it was good to evaluate myself in those categories. The second article I just
found interesting to read and appreciated that he would share those articles.
The second person I followed was David Truss. He lives in Canada and is the Vice
Principal of Coquitlam Open Learning & Lead Administrator of Inquiry Hub Secondary. Here is
his twitter profile:
Like George, David provides a lot of links to different articles on teaching, and
technology in the classroom. Though unlike George, David uses his twitter to connect/talk to
others more than George. Below is a screenshot of some of his tweets.
3. As one can see, David likes to connect to others, which makes his twitter more personal.
The third person I followed was “The Daring Librarian,” Gwyneth Jones. This lady is
very interesting, and a lot of what she posted reminded me of things discussed in class. She
describes herself as, “A blogger, a Tweeter, an international speaker, a citizen of Social Media,
and a resident of Second Life. Gwyneth is a Google Certified Teacher, DEN Star, an elected
member of the ISTE Board of Directors, and the author of the award winning Daring Librarian
blog.” As one can tell she is very involved in social media, and uses a few different web tools to
stay connected. Below is a screenshot of her twitter and unlike the previous two hers is very
personalized.
4. I really liked the appeal of her twitter in contrast to the others, and I can really tell she is
passionate about what she does.
The last person I followed on Twitter was Katie Hellerman. She lives in Chicago, and is a
teacher/trainer for new teachers. Her twitter wasn’t as involved as the other three I followed.
Below is the screenshot of her profile.
5. Something I just noticed was she followed the other two men I chose as well, and all
these people seem to be connected which is interesting. Most of her tweets link back to her blog
which is titled, “The Teaching Game, The Secret Life of Successful Educators.” I looked at a
few different posts, and I like her blog much better than her twitter. Below is a tweet of Katie’s
that goes to her blog.
