http://sdg.earthsystemgovernance.org/sdg/publications/linking-education-and-water-sustainable-development-goals Key messages of Policy Brief #2: 1. In the development of the post-2015 development agenda, the water-education nexus offers opportunities for dealing with a variety of different sustainable development challenges including: inequity in education, disaster recovery, and local mobilization. 2. In order to respond to water-related sustainability challenges, people worldwide need to acquire "water literacy." The term is used here to refer to appropriate knowledge about various aspects of water use and management in order to ensure safer water consumption and to contribute to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). We believe that water literacy can be acquired by obtaining basic literacy competencies and a certain level of education. 3. In order to create opportunities for people to gain the knowledge and skills they need so that they can respond effectively to water-related sustainability challenges, it is essential that government representatives and other stakeholders acquire an accurate understanding of water-related issues and that systems be established for implementing concrete measures.

I was honored to be the Keynote speaker at the 2020 Institute of Social Change, an annual week-long focus on public scholarship and social change, organized by the Rackham Graduate School. Although we switched to an online format because of COVID-19, I liked how that allowed us to address different themes and try more than one format. The first hour was much like a normal keynote -- my talk, titled "Rethinking both “Public” and “Scholarship” in “Public Scholarship: (Ongoing) Lessons from the Detroit Water Stories Project" for 40 minutes and then 20 minutes of Q&A. For the second hour (after an hour-long lunch break), I proposed a more conversational format, without any slides, and we talked about a gadzillion topics -- academic and nonacademic career arcs, interdisciplinary research, specific tools and practices for research translation, how to be a good partner to grassroots organizations, the kind of support universities need to provide for effective public scholarship, and so on. I was grateful for the opportunity to reflect on our journey so far, and how we can further evolve to best assist the #WaterWarriors who are on the frontlines of this ongoing crisis. Thank you to all my wonderful colleagues, students, and community guides/partners/participants who I am privileged to work with. Please cite this presentation as follows, if you use the ideas advanced here: Mitra, R. (2020, May). Rethinking both “public” and “scholarship” in “Public Scholarship”: (Ongoing) Lessons from the Detroit Water Stories Project. In recent years it has been increasingly recognised that enhancing the delivery of ecosystem services through better catchment management should not only be the responsibility of the public sector, but also the private and third sectors. Alongside this movement towards shared responsibility, there is also now a growing body of evidence that far greater environmental improvements can be achieved if all of the groups actively involved in regulation, land management, scientific research or wildlife conservation in a catchment area are drawn together with landowners and other interest groups to form a catchment management partnership. In response to this increased understanding of the potential benefits of participatory catchment planning, undertaken with local stakeholders and knowledge providers, in 2011, Defra announced that the UK Government was committed to adopting a more ‘catchment-based approach’ to sharing information, working together and coordinating efforts to protect England’s water environment. Now in 2014, there are 109 newly formed Catchment-Based Approach partnerships covering catchments across the whole of England and the cross-border areas of Wales and Scotland.

Education has been viewed by many organisations as an important non-structural stormwater management tool with considerable investment made to support it. Stormwater education activities have included media campaigns, signage, stormwater drain stenciling and industry training courses. They aim to change the behaviour of sectors of the community whose activities are thought to impact on stormwater quality (and quantity) and the health of waterways. Yet, have these stormwater education programs been effective in changing behaviour and achieve water quality improvements? According to research, the answer is ‘in some cases’. However, there is certainly a formula for effective stormwater education - this is developed in this paper.
How can we make stormwater education more effective?

Created by Mozilla Research in 2012 and now part of Linux Foundation Europe, the Servo project is an experimental rendering engine written in Rust. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry. Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/why-teams-call-analytics-is-critical-to-your-entire-business Nothing is as frustrating and noticeable as being in an important call and being unable to see or hear the other person. Not surprising then, that issues with Teams calls are among the most common problems users call their helpdesk for. Having in depth insight into everything relevant going on at the user’s device, local network, ISP and Microsoft itself during the call is crucial for good Microsoft Teams Call quality support. To ensure a quick and adequate solution and to ensure your users get the most out of their Microsoft 365. But did you know that ‘bad calls’ are also an excellent indicator of other problems arising? Precisely because it is so noticeable!? Like the canary in the mine, bad calls can be early indicators of problems. Problems that might otherwise not have been noticed for a while but can have a big impact on productivity and satisfaction. Join this session by Christoph Adler to learn how true Microsoft Teams call quality analytics helped other organizations troubleshoot bad calls and identify and fix problems that impacted Teams calls or the use of Microsoft365 in general. See what it can do to keep your users happy and productive! In this session we will cover - Why CQD data alone is not enough to troubleshoot call problems - The importance of attributing call problems to the right call participant - What call quality analytics can do to help you quickly find, fix-, and prevent problems - Why having retrospective detailed insights matters - Real life examples of how others have used Microsoft Teams call quality monitoring to problem shoot problems with their ISP, network, device health and more.
