2. Introduction to ATM
 ATM is a cell-switching and multiplexing technology that combines
the benefits of circuit switching with those of packet switching .
 Circuit Switching is specific path set up for each connection e.g.
telephone networks .
 Packet Switching means no predefined paths e.g. traditional LAN.
 ATM Switching is Hybrid of packet and circuuit switching

 LANs Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is

 ATM is a technology that will enable carriers to capitalize on a number of revenue
opportunities through
