2. Definition: Deviation from accepted normal occlusion is called Malocclusion. Is a condition that reflects an expression of normal biologic variability in the way the maxilla and mandible teeth occlude.(Bishara)

3. An occlusion In which there is a malrelationship between the arches in any of the planes of the spaces or in which there are anomalies in tooth position beyond the limit of normal.( Walther & Huston)

4. Classification Depending upon which part of the Oral & Maxillofacial Unit is at fault: Individual Tooth malposition ( Dental dysplasia ) Malrelation of the dental arches or dentoalveolar segment ( Skeletodental dysplasia ) Skeletal relationship ( skeletal dysplasia )

5. Individual tooth malocclusion: These are malocclusion of individual tooth in relation to adjacent teeth within same dental arch. They are also called intra-oral malocclusion. Also includes condition like spacing or crowding within dental arch.

6. 2) Malrelation of dental arch: These characterized by an abnormal relation between tooth or groups of teeth of one dental arch to the other arch. These occur in all the three planes of spaces namely: Sagittal plane Vertical plane Transverse plane

8. C. Transverse Malocclusion: These includes various types of cross bites due to constriction of the dentoalveolar or some other reason the relationship disturb.

9. 3. Skeletal malocclusion : Caused due to defect in the underlying skeletal structure itself. The defect can be in Size, Position , or Relationship between the jaw bones.
