2. Q1.
In the famous fictional X universe Y is an invented chemical
element which serves as a controlling agent in the faster-than-light
warp drive. In the original series, Y crystals were rare and could not
be replicated, making the search for them a recurring plot
element.
According to a periodic table shown during a Next Generation
episode, it has the chemical symbol Dt and the atomic number 87,
which in reality belongs to francium.

Give X and Y.
14. Q4.
‘Mother of all slingshots’ is the critical
engine firing procedure intended to
hurl ‘ X ‘ on it’s 10 month long
interplanetary cruise.
Due to the lack of bigger rocket ‘ Y’s ‘
scientist undertook this procedure to
impart the spacecraft with the escape
velocity by successively firing on-
board rockets 6 times to raise the
apogee(farthest point) of the
spacecraft, finally reaching at 240,000
km and releasing the rocket from the
clutches of the Earth.
What is X and Y ?

SOFIA( Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy)
known to be the successor of the Kuiper observatory , is a joint
project of NASA and German aerospace centre (DLR).
At present, SOFIA is one of it’s kind in the world.
It has a 2.5 metre diameter reflecting telescope and can be
taken to almost any point on Earth’s surface?
How does it do it?
20. IT IS THE ONLY FLYING OBSERVATORY
IN THE WORLD.
Ans.
21. Q6.
The system _______ was conceived by Martin Lo, whose
software was used to help design the flight path for NASA's
Genesis mission, which is currently using a "freeway in space"
on its mission to collect solar wind particles for return to Earth.
Despite the gravitational attraction of the Sun and Earth, it is
possible to travel throughout the Solar System using little or no
power, as long as you are patient, and start at one of the
Earth's Lagrangian point. (where the gravitational forces of
the Sun, Earth, and Moon exactly cancel out) Some of these
points are unstable ,so a little push will in the right direction
can help in travelling at little or no additional cost in fuel.
Lo plans to map out these tubes for the whole solar system.
What is the system called?

NASA's Curiosity rover took its first test stroll on Wednesday 22nd
August 2012 , and beamed back pictures of its
accomplishment in the form of track marks in the Martian soil.
Careful inspection of the tracks reveals a unique, repeating
pattern.
The pattern is Morse code for JPL, the abbreviation for NASA's
Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, where the
rover was designed and built, and the mission is managed.
Curiosity can’t read the Morse code symbols in the track
marks directly, but it can note that the pattern is a high-
contrast compared to the rover's zigzagging wheel treads.
(Image follows)
What purpose does the Morse code serve to the rover?
28. The purpose of the pattern is to create features in the
terrain that can be used to visually measure the
precise distance between drives.
This driving tool, called visual odometry, allows the
rover to use images of landscape features to
determine if it has travelled as far as predicted, or if
its wheels have slipped.
Ans.
29. The first of these (Xs) when discovered, was named
LGM-1. The explanation of the naming goes hence.
In 1967, the chief overseer at SETI (Search For
Extraterrestrial Intelligence) found regularly timed signals
being received by their equipment. She thought that
these were signals from the Martians. They, of course,
were not. Instead, they turned out to be Xs. The
overseer, referring to her visualization of the Martians
called these objects LGMs. What is X and what does
LGM stand for.

32. “I came in with Halley’s comet in 1835. It is
coming again next year, and I expect to go
out with it.” It will be the greatest
disappointment of my life if I can’t. The
Almighty has said, no doubt: ‘Now here are
two unaccountable freaks; they came in
together, they must go out together.” – Said X.
Interestingly enough, X died the day later
when Halley’s comet visited the Earth once
again. Name X.
Q9.
35. It is believed that it was here that Aryabhatta set up
his observatory because he thought this was the best
suited place for sky watching. It is also believed that it
was here that he first formulated and proposed the
heliocentric model. The place, literally means
“counting stars”.
The place had been forgotten for centuries before it
came into prominence once again on 22 July, 2009
because it once again, according to NASA had
become the best suited place for studying the solar
eclipse that occurred that day.
Q10.
86. Ans.
Fermi’s Paradox
The Fermi paradox (or Fermi's paradox) is the apparent
contradiction between high estimates of the probability of
the existence of extra-terrestrial civilizations, such as in the
Drake equation, and the lack of evidence for such
civilizations.
97. Q1.
X’s are minor planets with a semi-major axis between those of the
outer planets. They have unstable orbits that cross or have crossed
the orbits of one or more of the giant planets, and have dynamic
lifetimes of a few million years.
X’s typically behave with characteristics of both asteroids and
comets. They are named after the mythological beings that were a
mixture of ______ and human.
It has been estimated that there are around 44,000 X’s in the Solar
System with diameters larger than 1 km.

100. Q2.
The ‘Twins Study’ is ten separate investigations chosen by NASA to
be conducted on twin astronauts Mark Kelly and ____X____ 10
teams will be coordinating together and sharing all data and
analysis as one large ,integrated research team. They will provide a
broader insight into subtle effects and changes that may occur in
spaceflight as compared to Earth by studying two individuals with
same genetics but different environment.
Mission runs parallel to ‘One year mission’ on ISS undertaken by
Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko and ____X_____ , designed as
a stepping stone for future missions to Mars and beyond.

Along with it’s lander ‘X’ , ‘Y’ gets it’s name from a stone and
obelisk that was used to read Egyptian hieroglyphics.
During it’s second flyby in November 2007, Y spacecraft was
accidently identified as an asteroid.
As the asteroid’s approach to earth was really close (5700
km), it was speculated that it might impact our plane. The
Royal Astronomical society was on the verge of making a
public statement.
Fortunately enough, Denis Deninsenko an astronomer from
Moscow, realised the trajectory of suspected asteroid
matched with European Space Agency’s ‘Y’ spacecraft and
it proved out to be true.

119. Q7.
According to some conspiracy theorists-
Following the movie X, the U.S. government hired director Y to
film the fake moon landing and, to protect the lives of himself
and his wife, he made 1980's Z as a veiled confession of his
part in the secret project. This would have seen him filming the
landing conjointly with X.
The movie Z is based on a novel which has many reference to
moon landing.
For e.g.
Room 237: In novel, the haunted room is numbered 217. In the
movie, it's 237. Why? "Because the average distance from the
Earth to the Moon is 237,000 miles.

The name of the neutron star and
the blackhole most likely came from
the work ‘The life of ______ and
Pantagruel’ ,a pentalogy of novels
written in the 16th century by
Francois Rabelais , featuring the
adventures of two giants : ______
and his son Pantagruel.
In the 2008 script of this movie,
written by Steven Spielberg,
Pantagruel is actually a smaller
blackhole with an icy planet around
it.
124. GARGANTUA(INTERSTELLAR)
In the earlier script of ‘Interstellar’ as written by Steven Spielberg, The
mission plan is to go through the wormhole to the other galaxy. Once
there, use the ship’s trajectory to slingshot around a small black hole
named Pantagruel, a journey that will take a few days but will be the
equivalent of about five earth years, to reach the ice planet they
learned about from the space probe.

125. This intellectual heavyweight, who ironically cast horoscopes for
a living was the first to propose that the Mars had two moons.
And his reason for it was very interesting, the kind of reasoning
we would not associate him with.
He reasoned that since Jupiter had four moons (as was
believed at the time) and Earth had one, Mars should have
two, being at an intermediate distance from the Sun, between
Earth and Jupiter. He could also have chosen 3 moons, but
being a fan of geometrical progressions, he chose two.
Who was this intellectual?
