EDUCATION ADVOCATES SPEAKS OUT FOR MENTAL HEALTH IN A CLIMATE OF STRIKE ACTION FOR
CHANGE
TORONTO – The arrival of upcoming swear-in gathering outside the Upper Canada Law Society last
Thursday, March 12th 2008 had plenty of potential since this popular affair was sponsored by the CFS
who assisted us by stirring an emotion among those whom attended a star search at a CFS Assembly
postponed to March 24th 2009.
The coincidence of the timing – two years after Freeman-Maloy v. Marsden – was mostly apparent to
the Divisional Court Of Ontario this past week on November 21st 2008. In an interview, one youth
advocate, “Rosemary,” maintains a strong, united party with a grassroots organization, and
fundraising capacities and an ability to mobilize support.
This leading youth and education advocate articled for the Canadian Mental Health Association
(CMHA) and Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) and Civil Liberties Association (CLA) and Criminal
Lawyers Association (CLA) and Association in Defense of the Wrongfully Convicted (AIDWC) all this
past year in 2008. This of course is after she graduated from the University Of Toronto a few years
ago. She most recently received recognition for her role the Trillium 2008 case currently before the
Ontario Superior Court Of Justice.
The Education Advocate, Rosemary, seeks to advocate on behalf of CFS member youth advocates in
support of mental health law, consent and capacity issues, and guardianship, estate matters. She
recently received recognition for outstanding legal advocacy in the area of mental health law
specific to civil litigation and criminal law.
The CFS will host an Assembly outside the UCLS in respect to the theme of Judicial Review now
before the Divisional Court Of Ontario this spring 2009. The CFS is now aware that Trillium 2009 is
mainly dedicated to mentally disordered accused persons in Ontario.
We look forward to a fabulous turn out at tomorrow’s events scheduled for noontime beside the
Upper Canada Law Society at Nathan Phillips Square. Be there!
