• On the spot where St.Peter was
buried 2000 years ago this has
always been an important area
for the Holy See. Before 1860
most of central Italy was
governed by Papal States. Their
lands were protected by hired
mercenaries and international
armies. By 1860 most of the
Papal States had been absorbed
into the kingdom of Italy with the
city of Rome last to capitulate in
1870. In 1929 the Lateran g
allowed the state of Vatican City
to be formed and ruled by the
Bishop of Rome.

• The type of government in Vatican City is Ecclesiastical
which is a government ruled by the Pope.

• Vatican Cities religion is Roman Catholic. All over Italy,
people eat many of the same foods—olives, tomatoes,
rice, and pasta, and the people of Italy are like pioneers
of art because people have followed after their artwork
for a long time.

• They have temperate rainy winters and hot dry
summers,because of the Mediterranean climate which is
from being next to the Mediterranean sea.
• It is located on the Apennines mountains, the major
mountain range on the Italian Peninsula.

• Peters pence which is voluntary contributions to the
support of the pope.
• Also the Instituto per le Opere di Religione or the
Institute for Works of Religion or the Vatican City bank.
