Museums and Climate Change: Creating a Sustainable Path Forward
Sacred 7 Musician Presentation 04 12

2. A lot of the problems we face are essentially man-
made, so naturally as human beings we should also
be able to reduce them. Natural disasters, of course,
are in a different category, but according to
environmental scientists even they may owe
something to human behavior. Therefore, if we are
optimistic, take a longer view, and we employ realistic
methods, we can contribute to making the world a
better place.

4. Tropical rainforests account for 6 percent or less of the Earth’s surface yet 50 percent of all the
world’s species live in the rainforest. Just 50 years ago rainforests accounted for 14 percent of
the Earth’s land surface. Scientist say that at the current rate of destruction the remaining 6
percent of the Earth’s rainforest will be gone by the year 2050.
The SACRED 7 campaign is making a conscious effort to promote the
protection of the remaining SACRED 6 percent of the world’s tropical rainforest
while at the same time trying to increase this number one percent at time.
We also vow to protect the 7 SACRED oceans of the world.
5. SACRED 7 Mission
Preserve and restore sacred rainforests and oceans of
the world by creating value through medical research
and the development of social and sustainable programs.
7. Current Profile & History
• Established
• Costa Rica in April 2008 as Santosha Rainforest Foundation
• United States in January 2012 – SACRED 7 Rainforest & Oceans International
• Protects rainforest in Costa Rica
• Rainforest and Oceans Laboratory (INBio Collaboration)
• 16,000 square foot building in Golfito on the bay
• Capital campaign to fund remodel and laboratory materials expected to begin Q32012
• Scientists from Costa Rica and San Diego committed to using laboratory for discovery
Rainforests and Oceans
Research Laboratory
• Developed Educational Program – over 20 schools mostly in Southern CA have participated as is and rendering.
• Planted 1000 tropical hardwoods and native fruit trees to sequester carbon and bring back
species such as the macaw and blue Morpho butterfly
• Meetings with President Oscar Arias and U.S. Ambassador to Costa Rica – supports programs
• INBio Research – The National Biodiversity Institute of Costa Rica
• Scientists completed 2-day field trip of protected land, findings stated that there are 800,000 fungi species known in
the world today, with research of this land alone, this total could be increased to 1.5 million
• INBio currently holds position on the Board of Directors of the Foundation

8. Why Should YOU
Protect the Rainforests & Oceans?
• Your support could replenish the 50% of rainforest that the industrial revolution destroyed the last 50 years.
• Stop the 100,000 acres per day, 1.5 acres per second and 37 million acres per year of rainforest land that are
lost every year.
• The rainforest is host to 50% of the Earth’s plant, animals and micro-organisms, you support will help discover
and protect the 150 plant, animal and insect species that are lost every single day.
• 25% of pharmaceutical drugs are developed from components found in the rainforest. Some of the most
successful cancer fighting drugs were developed utilizing components derived from the rainforest. You will help
find cures.
• The U.S. National Cancer Institute has identified over 3,000 plants that are active against cancer cells, and 70%
of these plants are found only in rainforests.
• While 25% of Western pharmaceuticals are derived from rainforest ingredients, less than 1% of these tropical
trees and plants have been tested. Your support will allow us to test species that have not yet been tested.
• 70% to 80% of all the oxygen we breathe comes from 7000 algae species found in the ocean. We need
marine algae a whole lot more than they need us!
• Rainforests act as the world’s thermostat. It has a direct effect on the “greenhouse effect”, which occurs
naturally, making life as we know it possible. Even though the rainforest is thousands of miles away from the
United States, it maintains the ecosystem’s services upon which all human livelihoods depend on. You’ll help
control weather patterns.
• Rainforests and oceans help maintain the Earth’s FOOD, WATER, OXYGEN
supplies. You’ll help future generations sustain life on earth.

Guardians of the Rainforests and Oceans
Comparable to Bono’s One campaign, where more than 2.5 million people are
committed to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable diseases and
his Red campaign which has generated more that $170 million since 2006 to
fight against the spread of AIDS and HIV, the Sacred 7 campaign will not only
garner United States coverage but will receive world recognition for saving the
world’s sacred rainforest land and oceans.
Involvement in the SACRED 7
campaign will bring attention to
the artist for helping the world in
addition to their great music.

SAVE THE RAINFOREST & OCEANS
• The government of Costa Rica is going to supply SACRED 7 with FSC certified hardwood for the
music wood program. Some of these woods have never been exported from Costa Rica. This
program is a first of its kind and will support the rainforest and its inhabitants.
• The sale of this wood will create sustainable income for farmers, land owners and indigenous
native cultures of Costa Rica.
• It is our intention that the instruments created will be played by the manufactures professional
endorsees, filmed and signed, then auctioned later for the charity. Creating goodwill for all,
awareness throughout the world and sustainable income for those protecting the rainforest.
