The times were different when both sets of my grandparents were living. My grandmother, on my father’s side, grew up during the times of the Emancipation Proclamation in Louisiana and married my grandfather a creole. My grandparents, through my mother’s side, immigrated here from Ireland. My mother and uncle are 1st generation Americans.
As a Field Medical Corpsman, our training is extensive. Not only do we learn triage in a hospital and field setting, but we also learn weaponry and hand to hand combat. I’ve seen numerous things: delivered a baby, stopped people from dying, gave immunizations, along with just being a listening ear.
