4. Report From Pastor Peterson: Photo Kids are an incredible gift, aren’t they? As a proud dad of one, and another one on the way, I can honestly thank God for the incredible joy they bring to the lives of so many, including mine. Even if just for a moment, take a second now to thank God with me for the privilege we have to “tell the Next Generation the praiseworthy deeds of our Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done” (Psalm 78:4). It’s not something our team takes lightly. Every school day has been a chance to share Jesus with students. I never grow tired of hearing the stories, talking to our students, and seeing their expressions as God teaches them something new in their lives. As the Director of Next Generation Ministries at St. John, it is my commitment that our entire St. John team will continue to support, encourage, and walk alongside you and the kids we all love as long as God gives us the opportunity. For a very long time, St. John has been committed to quality Christian education. That commitment has not, and will not change as we move with great excitement into the future. Our best days are still ahead! The world in which we live will continue to change. The technology we use will continue to change. Our teaching methods will continue to change. And yet, God’s Word, the Bible, will continue to be timeless and timely. I am so thankful for this Word, which guides our staff and students every single day. THANK YOU for your incredible support, encouragement, and prayers throughout this school year. Enjoy your year, and keep thanking God for the gift kids are to our lives. On the journey with you, Pastor Ryan Pastor Ryan Peterson is the Director of the Next Generation Ministries at St .John. He is responsible for effective ministry to children from birth through high school age. 04 | Report From the Pastor Peterson

8. Financial Summary 08 | Financial Summary The 2009-10 school year marks a milestone in our goal to become a self-funded ministry. As opposed to previous years which had approved deficit spending, this year the school plans to deliver a balanced budget. The primary drivers for this change are attaining our enrollment target of 441 students and accomplishing our Annual Fund goal. 9. Annual Fund Report In 2004, St. John Lutheran School Staff and several parents of school families envisioned a need to financially support the school. They embarked on a new concept that is often utilized by other private schools – the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund was created to help meet the current financial needs of the school each year without having to significantly raise the cost of tuition. In our very first year, we were blessed to receive a very large donation from one of our school families. This helped plant the seed of what has now become one of the school’s largest fund raising activities, along with the school auction. The graph below illustrates the growth in donations over the years as well as the number of families who have participated in the Annual Fund. Since 2005, the number of donors has increased from 25 families to now almost 125 families. More than half of the donations in the last school year came from new donors. Over 50 donors were multi-year donors (many have donated more than 3 years). Many corporations and Thrivent will match employee/Thrivent Member gifts through a Gift Matching Program. Each year ~25% of the donations come from Corporate Gift Matching Programs. Our goal is to achieve a 50% school family donation rate in the 2009-2010 school year. The rate is currently < 20%. No gift is too small. If every family contributed ~$400 each year we would achieve our goal. We extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to all who have participated over the years through both donations and prayers. All donations are tax-deductible
