– Allows the free and open exchange of knowledge
– Cost benefit for students when used in place of a textbook
– A good starting point for customizing materials
– Convenience of 24/7 online access without authentication issues
– Allows chunking of content into a meaningful structure

3. OER Challenges
– •Time-consuming to find appropriate content for audience & purpose
– •Varied and insufficient meta-data schemes to describe content
– •Difficult to distinguish between lessons and content
– •Too many places to look
– •Low quality production values, lack of features
