LONG-TIME MPP INVITED TO PEO ORDER OF HONOUR AWARDS GALA
A long-time MPP has been invited to the PEO Order of
Honour Awards Gala.
Bas Balkissoon MPP (Scarborough-Rouge River),
Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Community
Safety and Correctional Services, has been invited to attend
the PEO Order of Honour Awards Gala on April 24 at the
Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto.
Mr. Balkissoon was first elected in 2005.
One of the Awardees that evening will be PEO Government
Liaison Committee member Michael Chan, P. Eng.

PC MPP TO SPEAK AT PEO YORK CHAPTER
TRANSPORTATION SYMPOSIUM MARCH 25
Gila Martow MPP (Thornhill), PC Critic for Intergovernmental Affairs,
Francophone Affairs and Greater Toronto Issues, will speak at the PEO
York Chapter Transportation Symposium on March 25 at the Markham
Event Centre.
The symposium will bring together engineering leaders, technology
experts, and public policy professionals to discuss and improve the
future of transportation in the GTA.
Keynote speakers from the transportation industry will include Toronto
Transit Commission CEO Andy Byford and Metrolinx CEO Bruce
McCuaig.
Mr. McCuaig is a former Ontario Deputy Minister of Transportation. Mr.
Byford has been at the TTC since 2012.
Other executives are expected to attend from organizations such as
Greater Toronto Airport Authority, Siemens, Plan Group, General Motors
of Canada Limited and Bombardier Aerospace.
Key municipal decision makers are expected to attend including
Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, and Vaughan Councillor Sandra Yeung
Racco, Richmond Hill Councillor Godwin Chan and Markham Councillors
Amanda Collucci and Alan Ho.
The symposium will give attendees the opportunity to meet government
officials, network with industry professionals, develop partnerships,
learn about transit planning and innovation and participate in the
discussion.
Tickets are $100 each plus the handling fee. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks
will be included.

The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers
(OSPE) has announced that it will host a

PREMIER HOSTS EVENT FOR ONTARIO’S 18TH
PREMIER
Former Premier David Peterson, who served as Ontario's
20th Premier, will serve as Chair of a Gala honouring
Ontario 18th Premier William Davis on April 13.
Mr. Davis will be honoured with the Couchiching Award
for Public Policy Leadership.
The Award recognizes the accomplishments of an
individual who has demonstrated bold leadership in public
policy.
It also honours the exemplary actions taken by
an individual to formulate and implement policy with a
positive impact on Canada.

MPPs voted in favour of a motion acknowledging
climate change as a result of man-made green-
house gas emissions on March 12. With the
passage of the motion, MPPs agreed that they

concerns about increasing incidents of extreme
weather and its impact on the agricultural sector.

MPPs AGREE TO TRANSITION TO LOW-CARBON ECONOMY
Grant Crack MPP (Glengarry-Prescott-Russell), Parliamentary
Assistant to the Minister of Education, tabled a Private
Members motion on the need to acknowledge and address
climate change. The motion had the full support of the House.
OSPE CONCERNED THAT NO ENGINEERS WERE INCLUDED IN CLIMATE ACTION ADVISORY GROUP
The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) has expressed
concern that no licensed engineers were included in the Climate Action
Group. The group was created to advise the Minister of Environment
and Climate Change, Glen Murray MPP (Toronto-Centre).
The Ontario government announced the creation of the Climate Action
Group consisting of academics, business leaders and civic leaders on
March 9.
The Climate Action Group will be chaired by former Federal
Communities Minister John Godfrey who was the MP for Don Valley
West from 1993-2008.

"Take Your MPP to Work" initiative which involved a very interesting and informative tour of Bombardier's world-
renowned testing and manufacturing f aid Ms. Kiwala. Bombardier is an
important part of our community employing over 450 highly-skilled workers, half of them engineers. They also
partner in leading edge research and development programs with Queen's University and provide Summer
Internship Programs to local students. At this state-of-the-art facility our local workforce is meeting the world's
needs for the safe, efficient, cost-effective high-speed transit of tomorrow.
Kidd. As an
engineer, I'm heartened to see examples of global success like Bombardier. As a PEO Councillor, I'm happy to have
had the opportunity to contribute to Kingston Chapter's Government Liaison Program. This event was truly an

PEO WESTERN GLP ACADEMY INVITES MPPS TO COLLINGWOOD
COLLINGWOOD Ann Hoggarth MPP (Barrie),
Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of
Labour, has confirmed that she will be speaking
at the upcoming PEO Western GLP Academy and
Congress on June 13 in Collingwood.
Jim Wilson MPP (Simcoe-Grey), Leader of the
Opposition and Interim Leader and current PC
Interim Leader has been invited to speak at the
event as well.
Ms. Hoggarth was elected in June 2014 and Mr.
Wilson was first elected in 1990. MPP Wilson will
step down as PC Leader following the selection
of the new leader a
convention in May.
The Western GLP Academy and Congress will be
hosted by Vajahat Banday, GLP Chair for the
Georgian Bay Chapter.
Ann Hoggarth MPP (Barrie), Parliamentary Assistant to the
Minister of Labour has confirmed that she will be speaking at the
PEO Western GLP Academy and Congress on June 13 in
Collingwood. Jim Wilson MPP (Simcoe-Grey), Leader of the

conservative values. His campaign calls for an end to the
proposed Ontario Retirement Pension Plan and a rewrite of
the sex education curriculum.

TIMMINS - NDP House Leader Gilles Bisson MPP (Timmins-

Academy and Congress in Timmins on June 6. It will be hosted
by the PEO Porcupine-Kapuskasing Chapter.

Bas Balkissoon MPP (Scarborough-Rouge River), Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, has been invited to attend the PEO Order of Honour Awards Gala on April 24 at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto. Mr. Balkissoon was first elected in 2005. One of the Awardees that evening will be PEO Government Liaison Committee member Michael Chan, P. Eng. Bas Balkissoon MPP (Scarborough-Rouge River) (photo left), Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, has been invited to the PEO Order of Honour Awards Gala on April 24 at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto.   • 3. 3 | P a g e PC MPP TO SPEAK AT PEO YORK CHAPTER TRANSPORTATION SYMPOSIUM MARCH 25 Gila Martow MPP (Thornhill), PC Critic for Intergovernmental Affairs, Francophone Affairs and Greater Toronto Issues, will speak at the PEO York Chapter Transportation Symposium on March 25 at the Markham Event Centre. The symposium will bring together engineering leaders, technology experts, and public policy professionals to discuss and improve the future of transportation in the GTA. Keynote speakers from the transportation industry will include Toronto Transit Commission CEO Andy Byford and Metrolinx CEO Bruce McCuaig. Mr. McCuaig is a former Ontario Deputy Minister of Transportation. Mr. Byford has been at the TTC since 2012. Other executives are expected to attend from organizations such as Greater Toronto Airport Authority, Siemens, Plan Group, General Motors of Canada Limited and Bombardier Aerospace. Key municipal decision makers are expected to attend including Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, and Vaughan Councillor Sandra Yeung Racco, Richmond Hill Councillor Godwin Chan and Markham Councillors Amanda Collucci and Alan Ho. The symposium will give attendees the opportunity to meet government officials, network with industry professionals, develop partnerships, learn about transit planning and innovation and participate in the discussion. Engineers from across Ontario had the opportunity to discuss engineering issues with the MPPs. Eng., is co-chairing Ryerson Dean of Engineering and Architectural Science, Dr. Thomas Duever, P.Eng., and the CEO of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) Sandro Perruza. With the passage of the motion, MPPs agreed that they , transition to a low-carbon economy and combat the effects of climate change." MPPs AGREE TO TRANSITION TO LOW-CARBON ECONOMY Grant Crack MPP (Glengarry-Prescott-Russell), Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Education, tabled a Private Members motion on the need to acknowledge and address climate change. The motion had the full support of the House. OSPE CONCERNED THAT NO ENGINEERS WERE INCLUDED IN CLIMATE ACTION ADVISORY GROUP The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) has expressed concern that no licensed engineers were included in the Climate Action Group. The group was created to advise the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Glen Murray MPP (Toronto-Centre). The Ontario government announced the creation of the Climate Action Group consisting of academics, business leaders and civic leaders on March 9. The Climate Action Group will be chaired by former Federal Communities Minister John Godfrey who was the MP for Don Valley West from 1993-2008. Eng., PEO Government Liaison Committee Chair Darla Campbell, P. Eng., PEO Kingston Chapter Chair Doug Hamilton, P. Eng. and six other Chapter executives. "Take Your MPP to Work" initiative which involved a very interesting and informative tour of Bombardier's world- renowned testing and manufacturing f aid Ms. Kiwala. Bombardier is an important part of our community employing over 450 highly-skilled workers, half of them engineers. They also partner in leading edge research and development programs with Queen's University and provide Summer Internship Programs to local students. At this state-of-the-art facility our local workforce is meeting the world's needs for the safe, efficient, cost-effective high-speed transit of tomorrow. Kidd. As an engineer, I'm heartened to see examples of global success like Bombardier. As a PEO Councillor, I'm happy to have had the opportunity to contribute to Kingston Chapter's Government Liaison Program. This event was truly an "everybody wins" opportunity. Eng., is an active councillor who participates in many community events, including those of the PEO Mississauga Chapter. His engineering background has helped him in addressing some of the municipal issues that the city faces. EVENTS ATTENDED PEO WESTERN GLP ACADEMY INVITES MPPS TO COLLINGWOOD COLLINGWOOD Ann Hoggarth MPP (Barrie), Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Labour, has confirmed that she will be speaking at the upcoming PEO Western GLP Academy and Congress on June 13 in Collingwood. Jim Wilson MPP (Simcoe-Grey), Leader of the Opposition and Interim Leader and current PC Interim Leader has been invited to speak at the event as well.
