1.1. Holzaufbau
                    •      Borke:
                           – Äussere Rindenschicht aus abgestorbene Korkzellen
                           – Schützt vor Beschädigungen, Wasserverlust, Witterung, Bakterien
                           – Borkenzellen wachsen nicht aber reißen auf
                    •      Korkkambium:
                           – Bildet Korkzellen und so auch die Borke
                           – Schließt Risse im Borkenmantel
                    •      Bast: (Innere Rinde)
                           – Speicherung der Assimilaten und deren Transport
                           – Assimilation = Stoff- und Energieumwandelung
                    •      Kambium:
                           – Wachsender Teil des Baumes
                    •      Splintholz:
                           – Wasser- und Nährsalztransport, Festigung und Assimilaten Speicherung
                           – Jedes Jahr bildet sich einen neuen Ring (Jahreszeitlich bedingte Phasen)
                           – Einlagerung von Lignin (Klebstoff)
                    •      Kernholz:
                           – Stützende Säule, die meist beginnt im Alter von 20-40 Jahren
                    •      Mark:
                           – Totes Fasergebinde, Mittelpunkt des Stammes

                           – Traubenzucker (Glucose) wird durch Wasserabgabe umgewandelt zu Stärke
                           – Durch deren Vervielfachung entsteht Zellulose

                    • Cellulose:
                           – Gerüstsubstanz der Zellwand
                           – Lange, fadenförmige Polysaccharidketten aus Traubenzuckermolekülen
                           – Aufgrund von Wasserstoffbrückenbildung entsteht eine kristallähnliche Struktur


                    • Hemicellulose:
                           – Kittsubstanzen und Flexibilisatoren
                           – Kurze Polysaccharidketten aus unterschiedlichen Zuckern


                    • Lignin:
                           –   Klebstoff des Holzes
                           –   Füllsubstanz im Zellulosegerüst
                           –   Verursacht die Verholzung
                           –   Nimmt Druckkräfte auf, schützt vor Angriffe

                     • Steinschliff (SGW)
                            –   Entwickelt 1843 von F. G. Keller
                            –   Keine Vorbehandlung
                            –   Verarbeitung unter atmosphärischem Druck und Temperatur
                            –   Ausbeute: 90-95%  Holzinhaltstoffe bleiben vollständig erhalten

                     •      Braunschliff
                            – Dämpfung des Holzes vor Schleifprozess
                            – Fasern bräunlich gefärbt
                            – Ausbeute: <90%  Aber bessere Festigkeit

                     • Druckschliff (PGW)
                            – Verarbeitung unter Druck (2 bis 4,5 bar) und hoher Temperatur (110-135°C)

                     • Chemischer Schliff (CGW)
                            – Chemische Vorbehandlung
                            – Lignin wird teilweise entfernt  Geringere Ausbeute

                     • Ziel:
                            – Abbau und Herauslösen des Lignins
                               Lignin bindet die einzelnen Fasern
                            – Faserstruktur der Cellulose soll erhalten bleiben

                     • In Praxis:
                            – Es bleibt nur Restlignin übrig
                            – Hemicelullose und Cellulose werden auch zum Teil abgebaut
                            – Die Ausbeute ist ca. 50% (vs. Holzschliff ca. 90%)

                     • Hauptarten:
                            – Sulfatzellstoff
                            – Sulfitzellstoff

                            – 80 – 85 % der weltweiten Zellstoffproduktion


                     • Ausgangsmaterial:
                            – Rundholz und Hackschnitzel


                     • Alkalisches Kochverfahren: pH Wert 11

                     • Besonderheiten:
                            – Alle Hölzer sowie Einjahrespflanzen können aufgeschlossen werden
                            – Rückgewinnung der verwendeten Chemikalien ist obligatorisch
                            – Verbrennung der Ablauge für die Energieerzeugung

                     Sulfitzellstoff


                     • Entwickelt zwischen 1876 und 1878
                            – 15 – 20 % der weltweiten Zellstoffproduktion


                     • Ausgangsmaterial:
                            – Rundholz und Hackschnitzel


                     • Saures Kochverfahren: pH-Wert 4
                            –   Kochdauer 3-8 Stunden mit schwefliger Säure (Magnesiumbisulfitverfahren)
                            –   Auswaschen des Lignins in saurem Milieu
                            –   Aufschluss erfolgt unter Druck bei 130-145°C
                            –   Hohe Ansprüche an die Güte des Holzes
                            –   Ausbeute ca. 55%


                     • Besonderheiten:
                            – Harzreiche Hölzer (Kiefer) können nicht aufgeschlossen werden
                            – Rückgewinnung der verwendeten Chemikalien ist heute obligatorisch

                     • Zellstoff kann gebleicht werden mit:
                            – Elementarchlor und Chlordioxid
                               Alter Vorgang  Hohe Umweltbelastung
                               Heute ECF/TCF Zellstoff  Elementar-/Total chlorfrei gebleicht


                            – Ozon (O3) und Sauerstoff (O₂) in verschiedenen Formen
                               Papier nahezu geruchslos
                               Sappi war der erste mit dem „Sapoxal oxygen bleach process“


                            – Wasserstoffperoxid (H₂O₂)
                               Komponenten: Natronlauge, Wasserglas, Schwefelsäure
                               Oxidativer Vorgang: Metall + Sauerstoff wird zu Metalloxid


                            – Natriumdithionit (NaS₂O4)
                               Reduktiver Vorgang: Metalloxid zerlegt in Metall + Sauerstoff
