Location based social networking site Accessed by mobile devices Users register for a free profile and download the app to their mobile device Users “check-in” to locations such as stores and restaurants Users can share tips and information on businesses Businesses can offer incentives such as coupons and prizes Started in 2009, currently over 10 million users More than 500,000 businesses are using Over 3 million check-ins a day, 750 million check-ins
3. What is Facebook Places? Begun in 2010 Allows Facebook users to “check-in” to a location and share their location with friends Users need a mobile device that allows GPS location Facebook Deals gives discounts, coupons and free merchandise to users at participating businesses
4. Why Foursquare and Facebook Places is Good for Business Learn who your regular customers are Track when people are visiting and checking into your business Get the word out, every time a user checks-in their network knows about it Offer incentives for your customers Reward the Mayor (person who has checked into a location the most over the past 60 days) Discounts for check-ins or tips
5. Why are Users Checking in? Sharing their location and activities with friends See who else is at that location Creating a location based network Incentives from businesses Earning “Mayor” status and badges on Foursquare Share tips and suggestions for locations and events

Finding Your Business on Facebook Places You need to claim your business on Facebook Load the Facebook app on your mobile device Search for your business If you cannot locate your business you can add it To claim the business you must enter a phone number, Facebook calls the number and gives you a security code to enter You can then manage your business on Facebook You can merge your Facebook Places page with your business page on Facebook This merges the map and check-in’s to your business page
19. Learn the Lingo Check-in: users identify their location and indicate they are there by using their mobile device. Mayor: the designation of a person with the most check-ins at a particular location. Badges: Users earn badges by checking into locations, by adding a tip or uploading a photo.
