1. Analysis -- General Survey
Summary of the Results
• Overall 57 people voted. 47 of those were engineers, while 10 were non- engineers.
• Not much difference between the hobbies of engineers and non-engineers was noted, with browsing/ social networking being the most
common hobby for both the groups.
• Sachin Tendulkar & M.S.Dhoni were considered the biggest brand overall, while Amitabh Bachchan tipped Shahrukh Khan as the
biggest brand among film stars.
• Majority of the people preferred to work in India. However, the percentage of non-engineers willing to work abroad was reasonably
higher.
• Raghuram Rajan was unambiguously voted as the biggest role model for young Indians. No difference in voting pattern among
engineers & non-engineers was noted.
• As expected, majority of the respondents voted for Narendra Modi as their preferred choice of leader. However, the support for
Kejriwal was considerably higher among engineers.
• People favored democracy over autocracy. Support for Kejriwal among people favoring democracy was slightly higher than among
those favoring autocracy. However, the difference was too small to make any inference.

 People have varied hobbies,

 There is not much difference
between the hobbies of
engineers & non-engineers,

 One interesting finding was

engineers was interested in
singing/ dancing, contrary to
popular belief.

• Clear Indication that people
consider cricketers as better
brand ambassadors' than
film stars. Maybe the
notion of viewing crickets
as national representatives,
while actors as mere
entertainers is what pulled
the votes in this direction.
• Sachin and Amitabh got
more votes than Dhoni and
Shahrukh. Shows, Old is
gold indeed.
• A greater liking for Sachin
and Amitabh was seen
among the non-engineers.
However, it could be the
result of a small sample,
rather than any wider trend.

• Despite all the rampant
corruption, slowing
economy, rising number of
unemployed graduates, and
the ever increasing
population, majority of
people still had India as
their preferred working
location.
Kyuki Dil Hai Hindustani.
• A greater proportion of
engineers would prefer to
work in India, as compared
to non-engineers. This
could be because of the
popular perception,
prevalent in India, that
treats an engineer with
relatively more respect.

• Raghuram Rajan seems to be a clear
winner, as far as being a role model
for young Indians is concerned.
• Engineers and non-engineers, both
had more or less the same taste.
• It was expected that the percentage of
voters voting for Nadella would be
higher among those who wished to
live in US/Europe. However, no such
relation was found. In fact, the
opposite was found to be true.

6. Notwithstanding the election results, whom do you

• The trend seen during
election was visible here as
well with Narendra Modi
garnering a majority of
votes, while the Gandhi
scion getting zilch .
• As expected, Kejriwal’s IIT
background resulted in him
getting a larger vote
percentage from the
engineers.
• A hypothesis was that
people supporting Modi
would be having a greater
predilection towards
capitalist countries like US
or like those in Europe. The
survey points in that
direction. However nothing
concrete can be concluded.

close to 80% votes.
• Hypothesis was that people
supporting Kejriwal would
be having a greater faith in
democracy than those

the impression of someone

survey, with Modi getting
more than 70% votes in
both the cases.
